I got the IPOD fitted to my W203 facelift..Ipod is plugged into the boot..and I am able to change the songs from the left side of the steering wheel..and raise volume form the plus +/- on the right side steering..
Does the telephone on/off buttons do anything..the catalogue says so..but unsure if it applies to the ML or it also applies to the audio 20 on the W203model..my dealership says nope..but I am unsure bec they dont do many fits..I was told if Star diagnostics enables the telephone to be enabled ,then it can be used..
but does this apply to the W203 facelift...

Dont basically want to irritate the local dealer when all is done..HELP.!!

Yes, the phone buttons allow you to get to playlist, shuffle, artist, songs etc. They act like a yes/no action. Ie when a song is playing if you press the answer (yes button) then the menu comes up which you use the arrows to navigate song, artist, playlist etc, then use the same button again to select the option, or hang up (no) to go back a step.

It may be the other way round though, cant remember but definately know they work. Hope this helps

Andy

If it's a genuine MB iPod kit then you need to get the telephone option enable using STAR. Then all the steering wheel controls will work

Question, why is the iPod plugged in the boot?

I ask 'cos on facelift 203 it goes in the glovebox..

I agree and equally puzzled by the boot thing!

Yep similar. Me thinks all ipods went in the glovebox especially facelift. Can't understand why the dealer would want to put it in the boot, unless you asked for it to be put there?

I am struggling to think how you could put it in the boot as the multiblock connector has to be plugged into the back of the headunit! Me thinks its a typo. Has to be.

I am sorry..it was a typo..it is plugged into the glovebox..no idea why i said the boot..apologies..well spotted by SO many of you guys..cannot fault the spotting of minor errors with you guys..

will print this thread out and show it to my dealer..at least i am not the paranoid one and have been right regarding the telephone on and off..

it would be brilliant though if the tittles showed up on the main audio20 rather than just on instrument cluster..
my partner(passenger seat) is always in control of the music..so starts pressing and coming across to see which artist and starts playing with the steering controls..if the telephone on/off is enabled using STAR..will this mean, the AUDIO 20 telephone buttons, opposite to the audio one/off volume button will be functional..

LOL :D

Well, we didn't know it was an error, until you told us!Just had us a bit confused ...

I don't think it a good idea, your passenger leaning across to fiddle  with your steering wheel controls!! :o :p

I do not know if the titles shoud show on the Audio20, but I know a man who does..

ALFIE !! :D

The iPod kit is only controlled from the steering wheel controls. The cluster needs the 'telephone/ipod' enabled to enable the hangup/pickup phone buttons on the steering wheel so as you have full functionality

Track names are not displayed on the COMAND/Audio-20, and there is no control from it either i'm afraid.

The Model Year 09 cars have new stereos and control/display is from the comand screen on those with the appropriate iPod or Media Interface kits installed

May I steal the thread a bit now that the OP got the necessary guidance and a lot of iPod kit owners/experts are present.

On another forum someone complained that iPod does not pause playing when audio is muted. At least my car pauses all audio sources that can be paused (not FM radio :) ), like CD audio/DVD audio/MP3 from the memory card or DVD.

I do not have the iPod kit but wanted to know how is it supposed to work on an MB and are there differences between car models (this was for a new ML specifically)?

I highly doubt it will pause, since the mute button is part of the stereo and the device is just reading the car's CANbus to see the steering wheel controls...

I would hope (but not sure) that the MY09 cars will pause since all control is from the head unit for those - but never tested it yet ..

It doesnt pause. Well, my one doesnt:(

Thanks, I'm fine by knowing that the iPod does not pause at least on all models, I guess none then.

I'm still a bit puzzled about the CANn-bus issue though as the question was from a new ML where the CAN-bus is connected to the head unit.

Also my W221 has the mute button anyway behind the CAN bus, either from the steering wheel or from the front central operating unit. So the mute signal should be available in this case (I understand it does not have to be used).

Diesel, you have a mute function on the steering wheel controls?

Yes, I believe some time ago all models got the centre "push" button on both sides. On the W221 at least you have the "OK" button on the left and the "mute" button on the right.

I guess the "return" and the voice control activation buttons have been added at about the same time.

If there's one thing that really erks me on my S203 is the lack of a Mute function on the steering wheel. One can't even use Linguatronic the mute the audio

What an omission!!

Hi Guys,
Can you help a 'newbie' out. My tongue is hanging out at the thought of hooking up my 60G iPod to my newly bought Dec 2005 C180 SE Coupe (not bought from my local dealer). What kit do I tell them to get and install to achieve this Nirvanah of controlling the iPod from the steering wheel ?
Many thanx,
Colin

Your best bet is to speak to Alfie or Richard - and if you live 'darn 'sarf you are in luck! Will be way cheaper than a dealer and their work is first class

You need the ipod kit for a W203 c class. If you have phone pre-wire installed then no coding will be required. If you dont then you will need access to a STAR machine or have your local dealer do it all but it'll be pricey from them;)

Where abouts in the country are you?

iPod installation

Thanx Mr. Muddle.
Hi Alfie,
I live in Bournemouth/Poole - any installers you can recommend nearby to me to do a professional job ?
Colin.
