Hello

I'm sure a member on here that no longer is (and his user name was the same as a black box your probably watching in the louge)

Anyway I have some some wood bits for my car on flea bay but I have Birds eye maple and these bits are burr?

I thought the member above changed his wood colour? is this possible or is the wood type different also?

You'll not change one type of wood for another as the grain itself is the colour and effect.

You can create a Piano Black type finish by spraying over though...

If one stripped the lacquer off the wood then it could be stained darker, then re-lacquered.

The said member did indeed spray over the original lacquer.

Leaving wood in the sun will cause it to change colour. ;)

As Dieselman says. A specialist wood finishing company can refinish wood in almost any colour IIRC. Nav (KLP 92) has had various wood bits refinished by a good company and I think he had standard burl made much darker (similar to the sort of shade seen in Birds Eye Maple IIRC)

Obviously you could just spray paint a high gloss paint and lacquer over the original wood, but you'll lose the grain of the wood etc.

Thing is that looks great if you do all the wood the same....but will this work for sme wod parts you want to match to your existing wood?

It doesn't have to be exact but It needs to be pretty good as it would look wrong if two types.

Thanks

Be patient you will get Birds Eye on Ebay. I did. Both trinket trays (mine had broken lids). £15 each. Not bad??

Ah - should have read your first post slightly better.

I wouldn't bother trying to 'match' your existing wood. Probably better to look for the correct wood type, or replace the lot to match (effort!!)

IMHO it would never be a perfect match and for the cost/hassle it wouldn't be worth it.

Is it real wood or a synthetic look alike ?

As the subject states, are the centre panel, door trims etc. real wood or a synthetic look alike. I always thought it was a wood look alike film that was pasted on a plastic/fibre base.

Real wood on M-Bs.

So if there are scratches on the laquer, then you could remove the panels, sand them down and respray the hard coat laquer?

I changed the Birdseye for real walnut on the 211. The secondhand bits that came were scratched in places. I took these out with a gentle polish on a metal mop/buff but using T-Cut instead of wax. Light surface scratches came out perfectly.
