Is my part-exchange car blighted by repair job?

Car
It's a car - just a car!
Thinking about part-exchanging my wife's 20 month old Ford. Car had a bash at the back last summer - quite an expensive insurance job - and I'm wondering if this will show up on some sort of car history check by the purchasing dealer. Car is absolutely fine so this is not information I will volunteer (although I would not lie if asked). Anyone aware of how these things work nowadays? Thanks...

There is no record kept for these type of accidents, just those that have been written off.

Personally I can see both sides of this and they have this kind of system in the US. When buying a car, you'd like to know if it's had an accident repair. However, if you've owned a car that been repaired to correct standard, why should you be penalised again, especially if the accident was not your fault.

Like you, I'd answer if they asked, but as it's been repaired properly, I personally see no reason to highlight it in ad etc.

cheers, Steve

I part-exed mine with the dents still in it. The guy said the car is going to auction anyway.

My 2 week old Saab was rear ended by a truck - over £5000 repair. Three years later I part ex'd it without a word. Don't think dealer had any idea.

If I'd been asked I'd have been honest, but I wasn't, so I kept quiet about it. I'd had no problem with the repair during the three years.

On the ocassions that I part exchanged cars, the 'inspection' involved a quick walk around the car, a check that there were no EML lights on the dash, and a brief look at the service book. Nothing was asked or commented on. As said, they auction them anyway.

Just when I was ready to trade in my Volvo convertible, I scraped the left rear wing against a stone wall. Guesstimate £500 repair. Mercedes, Ford and indy dealer would not take it. Nissan dealer took it against a new Note for Mrs. with no quibble.
They repaired it at their cost and sold it in a week, no hassle for me.
