Is the W204 C63 a one trick pony?

Popcorn at the ready.........

No comment on the 204 as never driven one, your problem is in your sig :D the 55 is still a great lump, discreet when you want it and a hell breaks loose when you stand on it.

Last years tour down the Autobahns in convoy seemed to require more stops for fuel than the older girls on tour, having needing to rev a bit more to achieve the same speed.

My pick of your bunch the e63bt, driven Dave's, his being a bit special with his exhaust mod, aural pleasure on the way up and same again when lifting:D.

My Mate has a E90 M3 and he always comments when he is in my C63 that people look and smile or even give the thumbs up. When he is in his he sees people mouthing "winker".
There is no beating the sound of the 63 even just trundling round the town at 30mph it makes you smile

Yep ! It`s a proper, old skool, N/A V 8 that sounds the nuts ! For me, the best sounding V8 out there.

Did I say it was my main criteria? I tried to start this as pleasantly as possible to avoid comments like yours.

Seriously though, I thought you were trolling at first.

Its a 60grand Mercedes benz. Its not just gonna be a 1 trick pony with its fantastic engine. Its got loads of toys, comfy, etc, etc.

I loved my C63 estate In addition to a great (in the fullest sense of the word) engine it was comfortable, practical, had a good stereo, perfectly adequate sat nav, and a range of convenience and tech features that were the equal of others at the time. A great pony with plenty of tricks. Where I have some sympathy is that these cars are increasingly being seen performing one trick - namely revving loud with the tyres lit up on Sloane street and the like. IMO this fantastic car is starting to accrue an image problem.

Hi,

What are you worried it is lacking in?

I would not partake in such behavior, that is why I went out of my way to try to explain my question. My concern is that coming from my E55K I would miss certain things like the aforementioned ''keyless'', not my number one option but something I really loved and am finding frustrating not having now. Add to this the fact that two of the cars I am considering have a far bigger pool of options than the C class range offered. I would like things like heated and vented seats and distronic which I can't have in the C. I love the idea of something more nimble and ridiculous like the C63, I love the small car massive engine concept. I am however very picky and bothered by fit and finish, I wish the attention to detail and quality were the same all across the range. Why do you have to have a bloody massive car for the best stuff? Big does not always mean better.

Hi,

What are you worried it is lacking in?

I hope the above answers some of your question? I bloody love just about everything the C63 has to offer, both my brother and I have them on our ''potential'' list but we both have the same concerns (he has just come out of an E60 M5). And there was a comment about image, a fair point too, I would not want people to think I was trying to be something I am not. Not that they are in the same league but I like the Focus RS, but just don't think I could buy one because of the image, a little too preoccupied with image? Maybe.

Bit of an odd thread really?

If you don't like it, then don't buy one. Plenty of great cars out there to try.

Not odd at all, I'm asking C63 owners past and present for their opinions, not to have my questions criticized. I think it is fairly clear from what I have written that I don't dislike the car, in fact quite the opposite, I really like it very much but have some concerns like I do with other cars that I am considering. I feel that it is normal practice to have reservations about buying any car and caution should be exercised, I'm sure there are people out there that go at it like a bull in a china shop but the is not my mode of operation.

Why do some people have to criticize others questions? Really, people actually spend time on this practice.......If you think my thread is S**t please leave those of us who want to talk about it in peace and comment on things that interest you and you have something valuable to add. I have seen this quite a lot lately with people being unpleasant and unhelpful and generally upsetting the apple cart. I just don't get it. I thought we were here to help each other and be pleasant?

I guess the point though is that it's still 'just' a C Class so the toys/comfort/build quality/etc. probably won't match a £60k E Class (with a lesser engine of course). You can get a new S Class for £68k!

No disrespect intended, I would certainly take the C63 given a choice. But I have a feeling this is what the OP was driving at.

I can see where your coming from in some respect. These super saloons are all about the engine and in the case of the C63 the noise. They won't be as comfy or luxurious as a £60k executive car, and won't have as many toys, as your paying for the engine and a more focused chassis. I think to get a nice engine and a bit more luxury and comfort you need a M5 or E63, unfortunately the bigger they get the less focused the handling becomes. I think the latest C63 is a better mix of luxury, toys, performance, handling and noise than its predecessor, maybe more off a Jack of all trades than the one or two trick 204.

If you can`t decide between a Focus RS and a C63, you really need to rethink what you really want.

The Focus is not in the running I merely pointed out that I like the car but don't think I could own it. There are quite a few potential cars and all have their drawbacks, problem is..........I'm not rich enough. ;)

Thoroughly enjoyed my C63. Always a pleasure to drive and the sound never gets boring. Has all the bits and bobs for when you aren't in a hurry to get somewhere. Only downside for me was the size of the tank which means painfully low range. Was getting less than 200 miles from a tank in mine. Picks up tar badly in front of the rear tyres but easy enough to clean off. Number of times I was asked "is it really 6.3" was fun. HTH

Mm, the AMG versions of both the 'E' and the 'C' do the same thing do they not? It all depends on whether you want a massaged and air conditioned derriere with a key in your pocket at 150mph or a large smile in a slightly senseless smaller package.

I'm not saying for one minute that the bigger sibling is any less fun but I do think the perception of the two cars is quite different.

My PPP coupe (with LSD) is coming to the end of the PCP deal and I'll be keeping it. A few creaks and rattles have not put me off and I am genuinely happy with the practicality it offers and the fun to be had in it. It gets the right attention and, like the E Class, is a bit of a sleeper with those who know their cars nodding in appreciation while those who do not, don't notice.

One is Adele, the other is Rita Ora.......

On that basis I'll buy neither!
