With a mighty thud my new trolley jack gets dumped on my front doorstep. A mere 37 Kg.

So, the question is simple. Are there specific lifting points on a W211 Estate for a trolley jack and if so where? If not what are the best point to lift from?

Nothing in the manual. Had a quick look underneath but it is wet and dark!

On the 202 estate there are circular rubber lifting points right under where the MB jack would normally go (side skirts) - the cup on the trolley jack I have fits them very nicely.

I am sure a torch will reveal all !

Not tonight unless I get the goggles & snorkel out.

Had a quick look around and can see nothing obvious apart from the side jacking points which are rectangular in section and recessed to accept the nylon block atop the supplied jack.

There must be suggested lifting points other than those?

:) :) It gives me great pleasure to inform you that you are actually the proud owner of an 'S' 211 Estate :) The 'W' is for the saloon and the 'S' for the estate. How does it feel to have an 'S' class estate??? :)

Regarding the jacking points, to be on the safe side would it be practicle to go to the dealer and see where they place the supports when hoisting vehicles????

Regards,
John Fellow S211 owner :)

According to MB (and local dealer) there are no suggested points for jacking or lifting on any W211 (or S211 if you prefer) other than the side jacking points but workshop staff will "use their experience" (or not) to find appropriate lifting points if required.

That will work in Kwik Fit.

:) Itis a shame your dealer is not more 'supportive' .... You can do an awful lot of damage by placing your trolley jack in the wrong place.

Nice speaking to you,
John

Can't believe that if Mobilo / AA / RAC were to come out and change a wheel, that they would bother with the standard jack ? I'm sure they are equipped with Trolley Jacks, and know where to put them safely. Very poor that the dealer can't tell you ... try another dealer !!

Same here - Have u got an independent who might be a tad more helpful?

Yes, poor indeed. Not much ground clearance on an Avantgarde so difficult to see what the options might be unless you jack it up. D'oh!

You have obviously gone to considerable trouble in getting your point across. Unfortunately your English is not good enough and it has got lost??

If you are asking me about my dealer, then the answer is YES. He would, if I ask, explain to me exactly where, and most importantly where NOT to place the trolley jack.

If, however you are asking, did he as a matter of course explain this. Then no he did not. (I haven't got a trolley jack, but understand your very important question about its use)

Sorry if I have misunderstood you.

Regards,
John

I think Mark's just playing on words there ... in that the 'support' from your dealer is not helping you 'support' your car ... right mark ? ;)

how right you are have a narna :bannana:

Having had a good poke around, I discover that about 50cm back from the numberplate, dead centre on the underside, a rectangular black nylon block sits in a recess moulded into the very extensive shielding.

Now without removing the shields cannot see what it attached to but I think it must be bolted to the underside of the crossmember which runs under the front of the engine. The 320cdi engine takes up a lot of room but you can see the ends of said crossmember on either side and it seems in the right place.

If I wanted to put a front central jacking point on a car which is otherwise pretty much plastic clad on the whole underside that is where I would put it.

Can anybody confirm this or tell me it is something like a cover for the sump drain plug?

:) :) If you look in my post you will find the word 'supportive' is in inverted comma's just like it is here.

This was my attempt at light hearted humour, support, supportive etc.

The dealer was not being 'supportive'. The original post being about 'support' points and the dealers showing a lack of help or 'support'.

I hate going over 'stale' ground, but I MUST be too thick to understand\comprehend what:

means in response to my feeble attempt at a small piece of humour???

PLEASE accept that it is obviously me being 'thick' or bleary eyed.

Good luck with your quest on finding out about the jacking points as it is a relevant issue to my model of vehicle.

Good morning to you,
John

blimmy what happened to the sense of humour on this forum.

John, if your dealer would, if you ask, explain to you exactly where, and most importantly where NOT to place the trolley jack perhaps you could find out for Satch.

:D :) :) I'm the one with the sense of humour.

:) Your constructive advice is EXACTLY what I also suggested, :)

Lkie you, I think humour is sometimes perhaps not either appreciated, or more likely it is lost in the written word??

There was this sick squid laying on the sea bed, when Sid the shark swam by,

"What are you doing laying on the sea bed?" Said Sid

"I'm poorly and can no longer swim." Replied the squid

"Jump on my back, and I'll take you for a swim." Said Sid

The sick squid jumped up onto the shark and off they went on a joyous ride.

Finally Sid the Shark met up with Barry the Barracuda.

"Hi!, Barry" said Sid the Shark, "Here's the sic squid I owe yuh!!!!"

Sadly this joke really only applies to all of us that realise that 'quid' is slang termology for pound (£) i.e. five quid = £5

I keep smiling anyway,
John
