at what speed did you get caught and whats the speed limit on that road

I was zapped doing 56 through tempory roadworks on a motorway with a limit of 40.

would that mean my insurance would go through the roof

Did you see the car or is this the first you knoe about it? Was the police car at side of road or driving?

I saw the police vehicle with the laser pointing at me but it was too late, as i understand it these new lasers have a very good range

I got caught doing 68 mph in a 50 mph zone and got the NIP letter.

I got a £300 fine and 4 points.

Amazingly enough Beckham got caught by the same copper on the same afternoon speeding in his Ferarri and got a fixed penalty.

I rang the Central Ticket Office in Manchester to complain about this and they said "Well he won't get away with it again".

Beckham's excuse was that he was trying to get away from a car that was following him. Dear me.

One rule for one and one rule for another.

The range of the laser if hand held is irrelevant.
The LTI 20-20 we use has a range of 999mtrs, BUT, it is only used to confirm the suspicions of the officer. I know I can't see that far.
In practice you see a car you belive to be exceeding the limit and then check it's speed with the hand held laser.

I second what plodd says. There was a threadabout these units some time ago and from internet info, it was obvious that whilst they can check vehicle speed from a great distance, they need to be much much closer to read the registration.

Isn't that the excuse that he uses everytime he gets caught for speeding??

Morning Fuzzer,
Strange how no one picked up on your example? If you look at the percentage figure this driver was over the limit by. Then if you equate it to the 70mph motorway speed limit?? The driver would have needed to be in a land speed recording breaking automobile ;) ;) My morning medication is kicking in, but surely it equates to something like 315MPH???? on a motorway. I have no experience of the laws in Scotland, but can the Procurator Fiscal THROW it straight back to the court and tell them that the sentence needs 'reviewing'?

What strikes me as very, very strange is the deafening noise coming from the media!  I have not heard anything about your example and it simply beggars belief? How has it slipped through the net?

Then consider the fact that it MUST have been in an area designated as 'high risk' to have an enforceable 20mph limit?

As you quite rightly say, if this driver gets away with this, then how can any prison sentence be justified when a driver is simply convicted of 'just' speeding. (unless it is in excess of the figures you have citied?)

Bye for now,
John the Junky

Are you sure you were driving? Wasn't your brother/sister/mother/father/son/daughter visiting at that time and could have been driving? You should check this...;)
