Hi All
Just buying a used E350 (265) from my local main dealer and as it was not advertised, I have no idea what it is fitted with until I pick the car up.
It wasn't advertised as I had phoned several dealers and asked them to keep me informed of anything that may be within my price range and a couple of weeks later had a phone call that a P/X had just been taken. It sounded exactly what I was looking for and paid my deposit.
I was informed that two wheels would be refurbished and a smart repair was needed on the rear bumper which would all be completed before the sale. I popped in on the off chance and the car was in the body shop having the bumper painted but whilst there I also noted a couple of dings on the rear door which they agreed would be repaired before collection.

I managed to get a quick look inside but it didn't really tell me anything apart from the Panoramic roof and I am assured a reversing camera. Due to the repair, I have still not driven the car and collect this Saturday subject to a successful test drive.

I feel fairly confident that the car is genuine and also have the protection of the Mercedes used car programme

I would like to know what additional extras it has and whether or not it has the 7G plus gearbox, so I am asking, is there any way to tell from the registration number?

If I read your post correctly you've agreed to buy something without a test drive, full viewing and having not seen any paperwork/history. I think that is risky but I hope it works out for you. The dealer should be able to give you the chassis number and the build spec, if they don't I'd consider running away very quickly indeed.

I have, on the assurance of the test drive and any subsequent questions / necessary checks. Deposit has been paid with assurance of it being returned if I choose not to go ahead with the sale. I have been looking for ages for a black one with Pano roof so it seemed OK to put down the deposit. Obviously with the work it has had, coupled with me not getting too much opportunity due to work to get to the dealer, I have had to do it this way. Obviously, there is an element of trust which I hope I have mitigated by using a main dealer.
Appreciate your concern and it is not normally like me to do this. I guess the salesman had a trustworthy voice :)

I did something similar but asked for a email with the spec sheet, this should tell you the full spec, don't really trust what the salesperson says, e.g mine advised my car had no stop/start and no 7g plus, with the help of Phil on this forum I realised my car only came with the plus gearbox.

Sometimes you have to take the chance.

Did it work out OK for you?

For me, I was informedd on the phone that it had the AMG kit, the pano roof and the parking camera. I didn't ask about the 7G+ gearbox as I didn't know about it until visiting these forums.

Thanks to John Bell, I now have an absolute list but need to interpret whether or not I have the 7G or the 7G Plus.

A 2010 E350 CDI has the 'standard' 7G box, and not the 'Plus'.

OK Thanks. As the car is a 2011 registered, I was quite surprised to see 2010 in the build sheet. Assume it must have hung around for a while somewhere. Oh well, I was hoping for the plus as the economy appears to be better. Just have to see how it drives and make my decision based on that.

I'd ask the dealer directly regarding the 7G version as a 10/2010 car would be a 2011my

7G+ transmission intro - Mercedes-Benz Owners' Forums

If you look here and follow it through it would seem likely that it has the 7g plus, as the code in the listing above matches that with those reported with 7g+ boxes in the thread (and evidence that 2010 manufactured cars can have the 7g+)
You won't know until you pick it up though!

Worked out well, similar to you I paid a deposit to hold car, it was MB approved used and was in showroom condition.

RE 7G plus, if you ask for a copy of the service history invoices, if the ATF fluid has been changed look at the part number of the fluid, if its 001989780309 then thats the fluid for the plus gearbox.

Tried Milton Keynes who think (Don't know) it's a 7G, spoke to servicing dealer (Tonbridge) who state the gearbox fluid was changed in March this year....

On phone to dealer at the moment who cannot say for definite what it is and the parts department don't know either!!! So, my question to them was: How do you supply the correct fluid for the gearbox if you don't know which one it is? They are going to phone back later this morning

The 265bhp model came out early 2011, the earliest I know of a 7G Plus gearbox is July 2011.

The best way to tell on the W212 what MY you've got is the DRL's, the 'old' 231bhp has hockey sticks whereas the newer has the straight LED's. There's also the newer colour drivers info binnacle inside the speedo.

Having said that, I dare say anything registered in 2011 could be a nightmare to categorically say which is 100% which.

That's not quite right. My 60 reg 212 is 265bhp, and has the older 'hockey stick' LEDs.

When was it registered (a 60 plate can also be 2011)?

How do you know it's a 265? Does it state it on the log book?

And to just clarify, after re-reading my post, I'm not saying all hockey stick DRL's are 231bhp (due to the amount of changes that year), but the straight LED's are all 265bhp.

I had the same issue, I was concerned they had used the wrong fluid in the ATF change, invoice confirmed the correct fluid was used.
