Now im not thinking of doing this (yet:rolleyes: ) but has anyone ever done this?

With the powers that be grinding motorists for every penny, it is something i would think of in years to come, (when petrol is O.T.T. price wise/running out, and we HAVE TO find a alternative.)

Does L.P.G. effect performance and would it fit in the boot? (cos im NEVER SELLING:) )

No, No, No, No and NO, and NO:mad:

This is tantamount to heresy:D

Oil will not run out in the lifetime of your car.

Another 50 years to go then:) .

Do you think that the powers that be will try and force bigger engines off the road unless we change to a different Fuel?

What would/could be a alternative?

Why not do it....modern sequential LPG systems mean that the power difference is insignificant and you could put the LPG tank in the spare wheel well and have a can of puncture repair kit instead of a full size spare.

LPG burns cleaner and is kinder to the engine+ environment....conversion should cost @ £1400

I see no problem why not. Donut tank in boot, if you want to keep it usable.

With a 5.0 v8 auto you will hardly notice performance difference.

Dad had it years ago in a C200 Estate and it was fine then, its got a LOT better now with multipoint.

The only thing that would concern me is how long is LPG going to be kept low. You pay around £2000 say for the kit and now its around 49p Litre but if that goes up to £1 say, you have the cost to recoup also.

More and more V8 jags, Bmws, Audis are having kits fitted so whats wrong with an SL??

Have the government recently took away some of the benefits of L.P.G or am i thinking of another fuel?

Well it seems I am in a minority:p , but it just seems so wrong to switch a V8 R230 to LPG:crazy:

Alfie,
That is like.......??? It's like......................

Ummmmmm

It compares with stirring a cup of tea clockwise!!

LPG conversion on an SL

It's like using margarine instead of ...................... butter

LPG conversion!!!!!

I'm not going to sleep tonight

Go put on an ****nal shirt and say six Hail BMW's

Take care
Regards
John

Have you used an LPG car or know anyone with one?

It does seem to be most people query it that do not, yet you hear no one with it has a bad word to say :) :)

When you can get 40mpg out of an SL500 and have a V8 rumble and an awesome looking car its almost having your cake and eating it :)

Why.?

don't do it! petrol prices will come back to realistic levels, prices are purely politically driven, nothing to do with quantity in the ground.
get a prius and drive the SL on the weekends. :bannana:

Remember that a good lpg installation comes at a cost, which could go up to 1500-2000 quid. In addition, it will require extra maintenance, so the reduced running costs must be seen against that background.

Other disadvantages are that filling stations are not that widespread (and remember that you'll do a lot less mileage on a full lpg tank than on a full petrol tank - so more frrequent stops for filling up) and that there are underground parkings, garages and some ferry services that do not allow access to lpg cars.

On a 5L the overall performance probably won't be affected that much, although when the tank runs really low on gas, some systems can degrade performance further.

Does LPG improve mpg?? It doesn't on the LPG vehicles I regularly drive and fuel, if anything the mpg is lower than on petrol.

Sure it's cheaper to buy - at the moment. I've been watching it rise steadily over the years.

Also, I agree re: comments above - it doesn't sit right with me. It's a V8 - not a 4 cylinder 1.6

No, you're right: lpg has less energy per volume than petrol, so you'll get less mpg out of it on lpg.

I have never driven one, but a friend of mine has a 210 E320 with an admittedly older LPG kit in it, and it seems to be fine. And as a rule I don't have a problem with it, honest.

Its just that they don't tend to be associated with the R230, I would also be concerned what it would do to the residuals. I would be less worried about buying a car with the conversion worth 10k , than one worth around £30k.

Driving a 5L V8 on lpg is a bit like drinking Heineken out of a Duvel glass  :D.

Could we do a methane conversion??:o :o :o :o ;) ;)

The tank would be fitted on top of the drivers seat:devil:
