Little daily driver with super fuel efficiency

I dont care what anyone says, Land Rover DEfenders, 90's etc are all just terrible cars to drive... I can understand off road and agricultural use, but apart from that they shouldnt be on the road..

Best test drive one sooner rather than later. The 2005-2010 4x4 Panda comes in very slow (0-60mph 17.4s) and tediously slow (0.60mph 19.4s) formats. The diesel however (70bhp / 107lbft) might feel a bit faster than the 0-60 time suggests.

Personally, I feel the 4x4 issue might be a red herring. I'd stick to buying a small fuel efficient 2WD car - fit it with winter or all season tyres. With your access to other cars I doubt the mileage in this new car will be so high - so keep the winter tyres on all year round.

Yes, the Landie issue is a non-issue. I need a vehicle I can use for carrying large bits of furniture around, and one I can run economically.

Can Landies run on veg? I here tell they can.

That would alter the economy equation, certainly.

The remit is changing slightly.:) Some small cars may just be too small for items of furniture as well. Though some do have rear seats that fold completely flat (Honda Jazz) and others where the rear seat can be removed (Audi A2/A-class)

I was thinking that the OP was describing 2 separate vehicles- but if just one has to meet both criteria, definitely consider the Jazz- especially the MkI which could have both sunroof and aircon- I shifted unwieldy stuff more easily in that than I managed to with an Insignia hatch.

Paul/'s right I need two cars, this is simply about the economical one.

Good economy? Check!
On budget? Check! (Well a bag of sand more)
Zero tax? Check!
No congestion charge? Check!
Great warranty? Check!
No rattles? Check!
Fits large furniture items? Check!

I give you (not literally)..........

The Picanto!!!!! :)

I'm a little bit lost, can we have a recap on what you're after Charles?

You've gone from something small, economical and a budget of £6k to a Land Rover for £10k; is that right?

To summaries

Budget £6k, about 3 years old+, very fuel efficient, not needed to carry large loads, decent ride, small. Anybody with good experiences of cars like this?

Perhaps I'll get a Landie instead. I certainly wouldn't have to buy winter tyres again..

Perfect little run for a 4x4.

The Panda idea is growing on me.

Sounds like the first post still stands.

A few years back I saw a guy driving a Series(?) Landie and he was wearing industrial work gloves! Tactile then.....

Ok so the list looks to me like

Panda (not 4x4)
Smart
Dacia Sandero (left field)
A2
UP or equivalent.

I drove that A class Will on holiday and it was fine, however I had a large, loud American friend in the back who was like a hyperactive child and I had to find a way to get on side roads (the autoroute being shut) from Montelimar to Ampuis (about 100 miles) in an hour and a half as we had an appointment with a winemaker. The experience is seared on my soul.

Ted - looks like you had to snap the leg off to get it in..Not good in my line of business!

SPX - I have decided to stop confusing people and leave the Landie for another time. That or an LWB G would be splendid for antique moving, as well as going to Waitrose, but even I would question my sanity buying them just for that..

Since when has there been a Waitrose in GX? Do you mean Beaconsfield?

About 3 months - in Station Road. You park in the council car park opposite and Waitrose refund you. It's the closest supermarket to me which isn't in Slough..

Presumably it's in what used to be the Birds BMW showroom (before they upped sticks and moved to Iver yonks ago)?
