Locked out of car, no spare key.

Depends on the car/model. Obviously OPs wife has mastered the technique.

I know that I cannot do this with either an E Class saloon nor a ML.....yes I am sad enough to have tried/verified.

Whilst typing, thinking that I really should check if the wife can "achieve the impossible" on her C Class (saloon).

I am sad enough to have driven off down the road to see how keyless behaves (leave keys at home) - it is about 500m before the dash starts to turn red.

I’m so used to Keyless Go you forget

Just tried on my GL and it’s impossible to lock the keys in.

Vehicle locked - if you open the tailgate via the fob or the handle it opens.

Leave key inside, press the lock button and it won’t attempt to close as it knows the key is in the wrong place.

Press the usual close button instead, tailgate closes but won’t lock the key inside. Sets the alarm anyway and the alarm goes off if you open the tailgate later on (obviously as soon as you press the key buttons the alarm is silenced)

Possibly an overlooked advantage of the Keyless Go system - not only can you not lock the keys inside accidentally, but you’re less likely to do so as you have no need to take the key out of your pocket (and sorry it’s of no help to the OP’s circumstance)

Our GL will lock them inside when closing the boot, no keyless in ours though.

I could do that with both the S204 and the SLK. Luckily we have 2 keys for both, and after a similar escapade with our 968 coupe some years ago (and an earlier one when the wife did exactly that with a Citroen estate) whenever we go out, wife always takes "her" key in her handbag!
Yep , I could also do that with my W140 .

Fortunately , I have the full set of keys , including the credit card sized emergency key which I keep in my wallet . I found with that one the batteries always go flat due to the buttons always being pressed , but the blade key slides out and can be used both to open and start the car .

Just as long as I don’t lock my wallet in the car along with the keys .

Thanks everybody, I thought my Green Flag membership had lapsed but checked and I still have two weeks left.
I gave them a ring and they said they will be with me before seven this evening.
Fingers crossed. Will report back later. john.

......and?

The Citroen DS5 is keyless go, it is impossible to even leave the spare key in the car and lock it,SWIMBO left her bag in the car with her key and I was trying to lock it in the supermarket car park, eventually found her bag ,so what happened to the op did gren flag save the day or did he smash the window

Update. Green Flag said the car was deadlocked. He got inside with a hook and pulled the drivers door lever but no joy.
Auto locksmith coming Monday morning to hopefully get in. £65 plus the old vodka and tonic.
Will report back. John.
I think you should play this song to your wife as a hint what you need as your next birthday gift 😁

Could he not have hooked the keys out from the rear passenger door??

Of an estate??

“Hi all my wife has locked our car with the keys inside. Its a 2011 w204 estate, I can see the keys on the boot floor through the tailgate window.”

That’s why I thought that with a bit of patience the bloke could’ve hooked onto them with his gadgets.

Ive done a few over the years with wires and the older the car the easier it was but with most newer cars the lock pin fits flush to the door, so the handle is the next best option but trying to recover keys would be an almost impossible task.

I wonder if you could try and hit the lock/unlock button on the centre console or push the key with said hook/wire etc.

Has to be a few mm to fit a suitable tool through the rubber seal around the tailgate hatch area? :)

If the Doors are "Dead Locked" there is no space to "Hook and Remove" the keys!
I understand now. I thought the guy could go in over the top of the door frame (weakest point).
