Locked out of car, no spare key.

Mercedes won't release the software to clone new keys after 2015 . Only a mb dealer can do it. You'll need the vin from the windscreen and proof the car is at least yours.

Imagine that if dealers just issued keys to randoms for cars in excess of of 50k

Think common sense prevails here tbh.
I understand it’s just a unique situation

I have the car vin and vehicle invoice/receipt - but never bothered to chase up the v5 as we used to live together

But now I’m applying for it they want pictures of inside the door

Just here looking for any other solutions or locksmiths

Presumably for confirmation of the "not displayed" Vin number.

Presumably the vehicle is insured at your address then.?

How about checking the Insurance company's cover.: Many policies these days cover key/lock replacement. If the car has been insured with the same company for a while, may it possibly be worth explaining to the insurance company & asking them to deal with Mercedes for this.?
Presumably (eg Allianz) are just as "big boys" as Mercedes, and if there was a competition for "being awkward", "excuses for" & "dealing with awkward", well that's Insurance companies bread & butter.

Go on, light the blue touch paper.....

When I applied to replace a lost V5 I wasn't asked for any proof of ownership. Possibly because I was the registered keeper?

Can you apply for it in the name of the previous registered keeper and see if any further information is required?

Depends on the car/model. Obviously OPs wife has mastered the technique.

I know that I cannot do this with either an E Class saloon nor a ML.....yes I am sad enough to have tried/verified.

Whilst typing, thinking that I really should check if the wife can "achieve the impossible" on her C Class (saloon).

I am sad enough to have driven off down the road to see how keyless behaves (leave keys at home) - it is about 500m before the dash starts to turn red.
Really? On my 218 cls I opened the boot only with the dedicated button. Put the key down in the boot whilst I unloaded some stuff and then stupidly shut the boot lid with key inside. Whole car is now locked and two 10 mile uber rides to get the spare key later....

Smells a bit fishy tbh. Like tuna .....

This can’t happen on keyless cars, we’ll certainly not on my 2017 car, the older keyless cars I have read that this would happen.

Key in your pocket is the same as key in the boot. So yes , it would still open . 🧐🧐

How? The v5 has been lost but I still have the sales invoice

The cars been parked outside my house for a month now just collecting dust

Very good idea - I will try this on Monday

Even though v5 isn’t in my name - I’ll get the doc reference to switch it to my name

Before I do - are there any flexible MB dealers or locksmiths that can open 2015 plate cars?

"flexible MB dealers"

WTF?
For example: A dealer who could make an exception and accept a sales invoice instead of v5. They say it’s not what you know it’s who you know

I’m sure there’s a way to get my vehicle up and running again

No chance a dealer would accept that in my opinion. For security reasons a sales invoice can easily be forged, but don’t thing a v5 can, that’s just my take on it, I can be wrong though.

Wont the existing person named on the v5, have to send part of the v5 slip, to confirm car has been sold/change of keeper.

I know this comment was a long time ago. But I’ve lost both keys to my gle and I was wondering if you knew anyone who could help

Thanks for reading

Alex
Just curious, but how did u manage to lose both keys.

Another solution would be for your step dad to apply for a replacement v5c online, takes 5 days apparently, once that arrives, he can change the ownership to you.

Good idea but I am sure you will need the document reference number to do that.

That’s the thing, would dvla give that info to anyone who calls them, I doubt it. I’m not sure dvla will be easily forthcoming. Also if one has lost the v5, how can the original owner supply a document reference number, unless they have a photo copy of the v5.

I thihk if you are the original registered keeper then getting a replacement V5 sent to the same named person and address as on the DVLA database is easier than getting a new document sent to a new named keeper.

You aren't going to get a key until your step dad has applied for, and received a new V5. No reputable outfit will make one.
He will need to transfer the ownership to you before you can apply for a new key as Mercedes won't accept your ID if your name isn't on the V5. You'll need to present Mercedes with the V5 in your name, or the new keeper section of the V5 filled in plus your passport or photo driving licence.
Sounds long winded but it's a security measure done for good reason.

Thank you so much. I was going to do another v62 in my step dads name - but I’ve now successfully got a duplicate v5 in his name being sent to my house (without needing the doc reference number)

That link and everyones advice was extremely helpful. Once the v5 arrives I can change ownership to myself and go into my local MB dealer :)

Thank you again, Alex
