Having just completed a 2400 mile week long road trip through seven countries in northern Europe and Scandinavia in our new ML it would be interesting to hear what other long drives people have been on. Our was fun and included the eurotunnel car-train, lots of bridges and a couple of ferries. The only tricky part was steering the ML through the old, narrow streets of some ancient town centres. The parking sensors certainly paid for them selves!

So, where did you go, how far did you drive and how long were you away for?

Cheers,
Matt

Blimy 2400 miles, I can't beat that, I thought I was going on a long drive tomorrow, about 300 miles :p, Snake pass and then back via A635 east to west.

Just for fun :).

Feable. ;)

Hello

Longest drive was over in America I did with my brother after I finished college, 14,000 miles coast to coast from New York to San Fransico and then up to Seatle and back to New York. Lost count on how many national parks and states we past.

2 months away. We had the hire car company double check and sign a disclaimer on the milage we were going to do so they didn't charge us any extra..

Awesome road trip.

Over in Europe the smallest trip we do is probably around 2K miles from Chester to Annecy and back with some driving around. Longest journey in one day was 850miles including 25miles on the ferry :) in the ML

Drove to Prague once in a day also in brothers old Rover 420sdi.....

All great drives

:)

We go to the south of Germany and back at least once a year in the Vito. We do the drive each way in one go overnight ... just stopping at the Eurotunnel and once for fuel. Had a great day trip to the Bodensee last year - light midweek traffic and nice new unrestricted autobahn :)

Drove/hitched the whole 15,000+ miles of Highway 1 in Oz in the late 1980's (circumnavigate the entire Australian continent). Travelled more than half of that in a 20 year old Holden before it blew up in The Blue Mountains! (Plus took a 'detour' to Alice!)

Took 12 months to do it, kept getting sidetracked!

Ditto - I'm just about to set off from Ayrshire tonight , down to Kent and back tomorrow , probably about 1000 miles or so , hopefully only 2 tanks of fuel in my sister's diesel Golf .

I took the coast road and circumnavigated the entire island last weekend,

took 40mins. 14miles.

I guess I have failed spectacularly in this thread.

But I bet you can't beat it.

We did a long road trip in the US SW - Vegas, SFO, route1 to LA and back to Vegas - the trip was booked at about 1700 road miles we actually covered nearly 2500miles in a 3 week period.

longest non-stop was from Saltcoats to Cornwall-quickly stuffed my chops with scones & clotted cream + pastie, then straight back up the road...my ex's sister had been booted out by her then hubby...

Usually drive across to Germany -but get a break on the ferry...always manage to find time for a wee Magners...:D

Long Drive

My longest drive was about 280 yards on the 16th fairway in Grantown-On-Spey. I think the round took about 3 hours.

What! - you mean you drove back to Saltcoats?

Yes mate...- 2 scones with clotted cream, 2 pasties and about 16 cans of REDBULL........never slept for days..:D

2400 miles in a week:eek:

Quite a few years back we went travelling for 2 years,we stayed in New Zealand for 8 months and between us drove the whole of the north and south islands in this

And in a few weeks we are going to spend 3 weeks driving round Italy:bannana: I cant wait.

Warwick to near Biarritz, and then over the Pyrennees was a jolly jaunt (in a w210)
Coventry to Saxa Vord was pleasant (in a Corrado)
On the return from the above I drove from Aberdeen to Inverness and back to Coventry in an afternoon. (well, started after 12:00 and arrived in Coventry before midnight)
I also rode a motorcycle from Coventry to Largs one afternoon, and then back to Coventry the following morning.

I bought my Coupe from Riverdale in Brighton. Left work on Friday and stayed overnight at Scotch Corner. On Saturday, drove to Brighton, was treated to lunch then nipped back up to Edinburgh in time for supper.

I thought I had left all those exploits behind me years ago...

Once drove from Edinburgh down to Dover overnight after work to catch the first Saturday ferry crossing to France. Arrived at our destination, Sare (about 20 km south of Biarritz on the French-Spanish border) late Saturday night.

The year - 1977. The car - Renault 5TS. No M25, no French Motorways, eyes out on stalks...

I managed 1700 miles last week, but not all in one day! Most of the miles were in round trips from Norfolk to the Lakes, the Sunday trip taking in the MB Club Midland GTG. Add about 300 miles in a round trip to Kent and it was more than I normally do....
For a 24 hour trip how about going round in circles at Le Mans for about 5500kms! And they have gone and put chicanes in the straights!
