Looking Forward to Collecting My CLK This Week

As far as I know the law for 2nd hand cars is 3 month warranty - im sure one of our traders can confirm this?

Correct KH, The law states you get a 3 month warranty from date of collection. Unless the car is sold as a trade sale i.e one garage selling to another. Some dodgy garages will put on the reciept that its a trade sale but as your not a trader I believe this is illegal.

Some parts can take a while to arrive if they are out of stock in the uk. I've just tried to order a part for my bike and they are out of stock in Europe so its a 15week wait from Japan.

Is it a MB dealer or an independent?

They should be be able to give you a breakdown of work carried out.

No its just a small dealer, they have about 20 cars on their pitch. When I first viewed the car it can just come to them from an auction. As it had the auction window sticker in the back of the car. So it was not prepared.

Will try to get a breakdown of the work, fingers crossed the car will be fine.

Tomorrow will tell.

The law is basically 6 months for a car of this sort of value.

The law Is pretty complicated but basically anything goes wrong in 6 months, you take it back to dealer and they have to sort it or pay for it to be sorted...
Its their choice which they go for though.

After 6 months the customer has to be able to prove the fault was present at time of sale.

Doesnt matter if they provide an external warranty or not... this does not over ride your statutory rights.

Thanks for the advice on this Guys,

So, did you get it and is everything ok with it?

Just realised, you enquired/emailed me about my CLK when it was still for sale... You could have been in it for a couple of weeks by now ;)

Well at long last, I now have the car. I have to say the dealer has been a complete joke. but the car so far seems great. Although today did not go with out its issues.

I was told yesterday I could collect the car at the end of the day, but as I am in Newcastle and the dealer was in York, it was better to do it this morning as I needed to do the change of insurance ect. So this morning would suit me better.

So dropped the kids to school and set of for York. Got there around 11.00 expecting to the the car nice and clean and ready for me to take away. How wrong was I.

It had not been valeted, and they were just changing the front tyres as promised when I bought the car. The owner was not even on site. When I spoke to the guys doing the tyres they said that they were not told I was collecting this morning but were busy getting it ready. At this point I felt like just walking away. I did not have a load of time to waste today as I had to get back to Newcastle to collect the kids from School and its a 2 hour trip each way. So I gave them an hour to sort it and went off for a coffee and a sandwich. What more could go wrong with this deal. But dispite this I kept calm.

The valet they did was so poor, but to be honest I would rather do this myself anyway. So looking forward to getting started on this tomorrow.

When questioned face to face as to why it took the almost 20 days to deliver me the car they just kept saying they were sorry but they got let down by the garage that they use for repairs.

I got away from the dealer with the car at 1.15 pm. The drive back to Newcastle, I am very happy to report was great. The car drove very smooth and it returned 43 mpg at between 70/80mph. The car has 18" alloys so I don't know how much this will effect the mpg. Everything seems to work. The only real fault I can find is the tracking is way out. They did change the front suspension arm, so I am guessing they messed up the alignment. I could have taken it back to them but to be honest I rather sort it out myself. One, I did not have the time and if I have to take it back to them to sort it will cost more in time and fuel then just getting it done locally. Of course if it is anything more serious than tracking it will be going straight back to them.

I did in total about 160 miles today in it, no funny noises, no flashing warning lights, it pulls strong, the auto box is smooth and quick, no rattles. So I am overall very happy with the car. But the next few weeks will be the real test.

To Killerhertz, yes I was very interested in your car. My offer was a little low for you, I am sorry we could not have done the deal. But I am please you got what you were happy with for the car. Looking forward to seeing your next project.

So again guys thanks for the advice and support so far, I will post photos once its been cleaned to my standard.

Hi Jaymanek,

I think my Farther is coming to your site tomorrow to have a look at your black clk 220, Now I have one he wants one. So look out for him. His Name is Phil.

Half way up the scale (80) or one digital notch above, you should be seeing one notch on the temp gauge at a mile, and half way (normal 80) by 4 or 5 miles depending on the outside temp. If you're seeing a constant 65 C after say 8 miles or more (three notches up) and the heaters blowing luke warm air instead of hot air the thermostat needs replacing.

Thanks for the advice leabrooks, it seems my car sits around 65C so I will be ordering a new thermostat from europarts this week and having it fitted my local trusted garage. Did you notice nuch in the way of improved mpg on yours with the new thermostat.
