Low miles R63AMG

My bet was that it would reach £28k with a reserve of £30k and then switch to "buy now or best offer" circa £32k. I noticed the reserve was lowered with about 5 mins to go.

I was ready, but I had pre-agreed with Mrs V8 my target and stop limits and watched it sail through both. I liked the strong moves from some of the bidders. Raising by escalating by 250, then 500, then 1000, then 1500 at one point.

I think I mentioned in a previous post I once stood in front of this very R63 4 years ago when it was on Auto Trader at £35k and 50k miles. Lovely, but I couldn't get beyond £30k then and still can't now. But of course it's all relative...

For many people on CC, that's spare change. I know one R63 owner who has at least 5 other cars for example. But there's only 2 spaces on my driveway and bidding above £25k causes a change in mindset because that amount allows me to trade up to a 2019 E63 S estate. No comparison in my mind.

But, if you have a house big enough to park as many cars as you want behind big gates etc, and both the house and big gates are already paid for, £30k on a curio like this seems perfectly reasonable!

Yep there's a C200 near me that's had the full 63 works at the back end - bumper, 4 exhausts, badges. But it's running regular wheels makes no noise at all! It's really odd!!

ToeKnee - do you have any pics or a Google Street View link perhaps? Relative newbie here - not sure if that kind of posting is allowed - but it would allow us to tell.

Mea culpa, we write our replies too fast “on the hoof.” My point was that it’s almost routine for after market exhausts to be “twin.” I have friends with both CL500 and E500’s whose replacement exhausts were “twin” to improve the sound back when these cars were more valuable. It was an (expensive) thing.

And not unknown to “badge engineer” at the same time. “And why not?”

For sure. As I’ve mentioned on here before. I have a neighbour who has a quite new Bentley Continental as a garden ornament outside his front door. Never moves. (Roughly 500 miles a year) but it does look jolly nice.

Can’t take it with you

Just the registration number will “usually” tell “Toe” the model number, not history and tax status.

This is the best view I can get on Google, next time I go past I'll try and get the plate so I can check engine size etc

More often than not though it's not there when I drive into Lutterworth, even though there's no rear number plate, when I drive back out I can see the exhaust but nothing else of note as the plate is missing. I might drive over in the morning for a look see.

If you can’t get the registration number, then photos of the wheels/brakes and front seats will confirm. Alternatively, if you PM me the location then I’ll swing by and have a look.

I'll drive past this morning and go to tool station as I need a few bits. Are you close to Lutterworth then Bobby?

Wonder if this price will winkle out another R63 for sale in the near future?

It's a common thing on Historics. They get a good price on something arcane and next auction: out pops another one.

But of course price is always about condition and provenance - another won't necessarily have the provenance.

The truth is out there! Reg number PE06PBO and although it has twin exhausts and an AMG badge, it's a diesel. On SORN and no mot for over a year. Anyone want a look it's on the side of the road in Lutterworth opposite Toolstation

I’ve got a Porsche like that.

Thanks for posting. I may have been knocking on the door if it was a 63 😁

Not close but not far in the grand scheme of things. I can pass nearby on a journey I regularly make.

It's not insured either even though it's only a few feet away from the main road, on the verge.

I think we should congratulate the owner - looks convincing from a distance with that new front bumper. Only problem is he's now got to wait 3 years for a set of OEM 21's to pop up on ebay...
