major gearbox problem, need advice

I have had this problem with so many of the 722.6 box and it does sound terminal. the fault codes won't tell you much but removing the sum pan of the 'box will.

I would put money on there being metal filings in the box and the box being kaput.

I would put a second hand low mileage 'box in there. You can get one for about £500 plus fitting.

This is somthing that I am experianced with so If I can help anymore just shout.

where would you recommend i get a new box from?? where did you find your replacements???
iv been all over ebay and breakers with no joy so far

Lack of ATF changes. See it all the time. If people just spent a couple of hundred every 40K there would be much less failure if any.

I repair MB's for a living so have seen many with the same issues as yours.


Keep looking they will be out there. Mercman and PC Merc centre are excellent
