Maybe just me but Audi indicator lamps are annoying

Sorry, this is so off topic but I've seen a load of new Audis on the roads with sweeping indicator lights.

Does anyone think these look good.

To me they look really cheap and tacky. In fact for some reason they so incense me when motorway driving that it would stop me buying one.
They certainly attract attention when behind. I was quiet impressed when i first saw them as they look futuristic. Practically, they shout "indicating" and not "braking" which can't be a bad thing. But i wouldn't go out of my way to get them in a new car or have them retrofitted.

Plus ca change, plus ca meme chose.

I neither like nor dislike them.
These look better IMO. Sort of retro futuristic, like back to the future

Not keen on them myself, the sweep/chase or whatever does attract attention but almost in a distracting way rather than the instant flash of amber that you get usually.

I can see why everyone will want them, in a showy sort of way, same as people used to run around with xenons or front fogs on in the daytime 15 years back..!

Not keen on the 'ice blue/white' LED rear numberplate lights either - which dazzle and scatter light rather than glowing towards the plate, surely pointless colour wise as the rear plate is yellow on UK cars (?)

Maybe as time goes on they'll improve - colour wise and fitment more suited for the LED units?

Bright LED rear brake lights and indicators were a good step forward though IMHO, much quicker response than the old filament bulbs and easier to notice :)

No, nothing new in the 'concept' here.

1966 Ford Thunderbird

Aslo the 1967-1973 Mercury Cougar had a similar design. Not LED but the same idea.

I personally find the Audi lights too bright and sat behind one long enough I get a headache.

Re these LED number plate lights , they could arguably contravene RVLR in as much as they show white light to the rear - which is a specific offence , except when reversing .

Oh , and since someone mentioned turning headlamps - the Tucker Torpedo had one just after the war , then the Citroen SM had them later .

And the Citroen DS23 too if I recall..

Well, that didn't take long did it?

Just seen a Ford Mondeo with the Audi style front indicators. Looked awful as the 'chase' looked like individual bulbs as opposed to the band style LED's on the Audi.

I think VW's golf has also copied.

Ant.

My DAF truck has them. Mr Audi driver won't feel quite as special if he spots them
Funny you mention that. I spotted them on the back of a Warburton liveried DAF truck this morning and wondered if there's a thread on an Audi forum somewhere moaning about their indicators (that are a cost option!) being "devalued" :D

Not a fan myself. First time you see them it's a bit novel then you realise they're a bit, well naff!!

Also they're harder to spot then the Audi driver indicates whilst manoeuvring into your front wing and the back half of their car is in your blind spot ;) haha

As mentioned by previous posters, I think the first mass-market 'sequential' indicators were fitted to '66 Ford Thunderbirds.

They were originally mooted as a potential safety feature I believe, but the stylists were not happy in case they were subsequently forced into designing cars which could only have horizontal indicators.

Will be interesting to see when the next vertical indicator design appears....

Sums my thoughts up nicely, first time, looks a bit different 'oh look how they've done that', but in reality it's redundant dynamic movement in something that is primarily a safety lamp. Prior to these, was there anyone on the road that did not know what a left or right indicator meant ? What next, indicators that sweep, in the shape of an arrow head.

I think the designer spent too much time in his teens with animated gifs.

Maybe they're the new version of Lexus lights. Looked good on an actual Lexus and were copied to death on modified cars, which looked ok for about three or four minutes. :D

^ You are right, along with "M3 mirrors" and "Angel eyes".

You can already buy sweeping indicator LED strips that you can stick on, but the duration of the sweep must exactly match the duration of the existing indicator flash or it'll look even ****ter. It doesn't really work as a retrofit, as the proper ones are on more than they are off, as the sweep takes longer than they're take to end and start again, where as standard indicator relays are about 50/50 on/off duration.

I agree. To me they are distracting and the gap where the boot meets the car is annoying.

A flashing amber bulb is such a stupid idea. Well done Audi for reinventing it, and charging for it as well..

How can we get annoyed by something that's never used?
