Mercedes GLC Clonking and juddering on near full steering lock

I would say on my GLC it's better when it's dry, at any temperature add moisture the crabs come out!
I get a new 2017 GLC sport to play with next week, will see how it compares...
- don't know the spec yet.

The Crabbing is definetley seasonal and our car has been behaving in the recent good weather, especially during the daytime. But still crabbing at night with damp sub 10 degree temperatures.

Many GLC owners have confirmed their dealers will be supplying All Season tyres as a fix for the crabbing problem. However, I did hear from an owner who's car was transported to MB UK HQ in Milton Keynes to test these tyres. They appeared to reduce the juddering and associated noise, but the ambient temperature was 10+ degrees which makes a big difference. Even with the all season tyres the crabbing is still evident.

With the warmer weather and reduced crabbing, I will probably keep the current tyres and wait until Sept / October before arranging for MB fit the All Season tyres - this is an option in the statement from MB UK. This will also give me the opportunity to see how the tyre wear progresses on the original tyres.

I'm sure the saga will continue in the Autumn :(

Hi,
Maybe MB engineers will have come up with a proper fix by then (assuming they are working on it) - rather than a tyre bodge - which is only masking the real problem.
Cheers
Steve

Nope, dealer has turned into non communication mode once again.

Same here, my local dealer is quite happy to discus the starting system over heating fault but they don't reply to any of my Emails regarding the crabbing or skipping as they call it. I've asked a number of times for more info on the type of tyres being supplied by MB and future availability, they probably don't know but they could at least respond to one of my Emails with something like, we don't have that information at the moment, we'll let you know when we do, we'll forward your enquiry to Mercedes Benz.

Tony Mac, you mention a MB statement? Can you tell me where this is? i.e. where can I find a copy to give to my Portsmouth dealer, they are being quite aggressive, saying it's not come from Germany but is an "alternative fact" :dk:

I went to Portsmouth Marshals MB dealer yesterday and they informed that the all weather tyre info hasn't come from MB Germany, They will take my car in and check it's steering geometry to make sure nothing is wrong but "it's just something the car does"
I told him he was talking crap and I have no confidence in his mechanics, it took them two weeks and a "roving" expert to diagnose a failed battery sensor two weeks after picking it up. I took it in and told them what sensor had gone!
Anyway, I have escalated it to MB UK, they said they would get back to me today as it's official from MB Germany.

LOL. I had a very similar problem with air-con. MB Swindon could not find the problem...I had to show them exactly where the green patch was(under UV light) near top of radiator where pipe goes past. Took me less then a minute to find!!!

Had a connected issue of MB making a fraudulent claim to a warrenty company on my behalf...MB Germany basically told me it was not their problem and go away!

It is a sign of the times, I guess.

The statement was issued internally from MB UK on 24 February and can be seen in this thread,

http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/amg-...mg-owners-what-shall-i-do-33.html#post2427073

I have also been talking directly with MB UK, and they recently called me with exactly the same information + I've had the same conversation with my dealer who is waiting for tyres.

Your dealer needs to apologise :(

Hope this helps,

Tony

Its absolutely diabolical how Mercedes treat their customers!

I'm still waiting for the GLC sport to turn up, I have to remind the sales director to communicate with me when they don't deliver what they've promised...

Its absolutely diabolical how Mercedes treat their customers, in the UK...

As expected this topic is slowly loosing momentum due -no doubt- to the milder weather and other priorities. Just as MB expected!!

New owner as of yesterday with GLC C43 AMG and crabbing :(

Arrived early - Page 3 - Mercedes GLC Forum

The owner was aware of the problem prior to delivery and appears to be happy to live with it.

The Crabbing season appears to run from around Sept / Oct through to March / April. So at least 6 months and not just the winter months. Having said that, the All Season tyres may reduce the season of jumping & clonking - will have to wait and see.
