Just had an email from Mercedes about 'My Service' and how Mercedes are changing the way they do things in an attempt to offer better value.
There are four choices when booking a service.

LITE. This is where you drop your car off, 8am to 10am and collect after 4pm.

LOUNGE. This is where you take the car in and wait in the Lounge, You can use 'free' WI-FI and have a coffee.

DRIVE. You drop the car off and drive away in a loan car.

COLLECT. The dealer collects your car and drops it off when finished.

On the face of it, not a bad idea, however, there is no such thing as a free lunch. The price you pay for a service depends on what choice you make.

LITE. A Service from £135 LOUNGE. A Service from £155
B Service from £259.99 B Service from £279.99

DRIVE. A Service from £185 COLLECT. A Service from £185
B Service from £309.99 B Service from £309.99

What do you think? would you pay £20 so you could use the lounge?

When I wrote this there was spacing in the text so as to leave room twixr prices. The spaces are no longer there, despite me attemping to re-insert them.

The dealer I use have operated with this system for a while but I just ask them for the best price which s the same regardless of option. I tend to lounge though.

So you get charged an extra £20 if you sit and wait for it to be completed?

According to Mercedes yes. The email they sent just outlined the four services without mention of price. I googled 'Mercedes my service' and that is where the figures I quoted came from. There is a charge of ..£50 to collect and deliver.:(

More reasons to use an Indy... :)

I got the same email so decided to price an A service ( due in 3k miles )...

£608 came up for each of the 4 options. No difference between them. A little bit more than I was expecting and not a figure that will see them service my car in any hurry.

I use an Indy most of the time, I got the email because I purchased the car from them, and its where I have had warranty work done. I must say though I have been more than pleased with the service I have received from them thus far.

If they have a bang tidy receptionist thats yours to do what you like to, I'll pay £900 all day long for them to have the car.

Hell, I'll even break things on the car and take it in, if I can get the best looking receptionist they have!!!

I get MB to collect the car and bring it back. Easier for me (I have a ~20 mile trip to either of the nearest garages) and probably cheaper for them than giving me a loaner for the day. They tend to send a more mature type of driver to pick it up, although they're not fooling anyone as I fall into that category and I know what I drive like ;)

I'd be very unlikely to use the lite or lounge options, it'd mean taking a day off which just goes on top of the service cost..

Cheers,

Gaz

Be my guest.....

I've stopped drinking alchohol but even in my darkest hour, I never took something that bad, which was free:ban::ban:

I think the one in the dealers is a tad taller:) Joking aside, the lass at MB Ayr is nothing short of stunning.

Have you been on the post-birthday shandy Steve??

I negotiate around 30 to 35% discount for servicing, which brings it down close to indie prices, and the service manager collects and returns them leaving his car for the day, happy days.

I must admit that the coffee in the MB dealership in Watford is the best coffee I have ever had in my life....... Sometime I go there just for the coffee:D

I was told by the salesmen there that "MB employees are not allowed to drink it as its for costumers only"

I find it quite insulting that they charge you £20 to sit an wait!!

Seriously, MB needs to get in the real world sometimes.

If you drink there 5 cups of cappuccino and 5 cold cokes from their fridge and some chocolate cookies it would be around £20 worth of snacks.

Having said that you will leave the dealership on a crazy caffeine & sugar hype:rolleyes:

They use Nespresso machines at my dealer, I buy around 200 capsules a month at home and that costs me about 26p a coffee, they must be getting it trade so around 12p a coffee.
When they are charging me £205 for an oil service, using around £50 worth of oil, I think not charging for coffee while I wait is worth for more for custom relations than 10 coffees, which costs them about £1.50!

Audi don't charge, BMW don't charge, others I don't know? It just seems insane.
