Mercedes Outsells Audi for the 1st Time This Year

Gizze, they always said the best of the 3 series range was the 320d and the M3. Guess you had the best of both.

The 320d's are rapid, I remember kicking down coming off a roundabout, and a BMW was accelerating rather smartly, I though, has to be a 6pot, 330d or something. Nope, a 320d.

I find the drive of the Mercedes I have very relaxing, and they represent good value for money used, a car like a 211 sport for 15k. Cant argue, and it handles and can be playful as well. I'd recommend you keep yours.

The press, and lots of buyers back the theory the BMW range is good, but sadly, you may be dissappointed with a F10 5, 5 series GT. Out and out fun from a BMW is now no longer the case.

have you ever tried the S6 audi.

It was a good car for the money, and a cracking engine, but somehow left me slightly "cold". It was a wet day, and the AWD traction and secure handling made it real world almight fast, but it was not quite there for me.

Its not a VAG thing, my mate has a GTi Golf and thats a cracking fun wee motor.

Missed this.

I did try an S6, and fairly recently too, because someone I knew who has a dealership had an Avant come in on a trade in, and he offered me that at trade and would take my 3.2 avant off me at what I had paid for it the year before.

Overall I thought it was pretty poor, main problem was the ride, it was really, really crashy, and the handling was not even that great. Then there was the engine, a 5 litre V10 should sing, it didn't sound that great, and it was slow, surprisingly slow, it was no quicker than my mapped 535d, and it was stuggling to get passed 15mpg.
I was offered it at £26k, when all the others were £30-38k for the same age/spec/mileage, but even as a straight swap I wouldn't have done it, well I would, and sold it on again. ;)

I recently added a post about my brief time with an F10 520d...absolutely stunning mix of performance (seriously goes), economy (combined 57mpg), VFM...it even looks great in Sophisto grey...you'd think that 8 ratios is too many for an auto, but just try this one out. Also interior is a fair few notches up on the E.

The F10 I tried was Sophisto Grey with a light interior, it also had the ambient interior lighting, and I have to say that the interior is probably the best I have ever seen, on any car, at any price, it just oozed class.
However, I had the F11 Touring for the day last week and the boot is tiny, so didn't even bother taking it out, floor space is about the same as the Merc but the boot line slopes too quickly making actual load space pretty useless.

It is probably not quite as focused as the E39 was, but then nor was the E60, but then they are getting bigger each generation, I bet the next 3 series is bigger than the E39, and with that you do loose a bit of dynamics, but it still felt pretty damned good in that sense and it was only an SE, the Bilstein/Eibach set up on the M-Sports is normally pretty damned impressive.

Although I want my old man to take a Jag XF out, he is liking the look of the 5er touring, and is considering the 520d, as it will return a genuine 40-55mpg even in auto guise and 8 seconds to 60mph is none to shabby either.

He was quoted £34k for a 520d sport touring with upgraded sound, leather, xenons, sports auto transmission, bluetooth, nav professional, media, usb and heated seats, which is pretty good I reckon.

This is the ambient lighting...
