Last Saturday afternoon, I noticed this (the SL63 reduced by £9500):
It was an offer ending last Sunday, so I called Mercedes Southampton (as the SL63 was listed in MBUK's national approved used car website as being located there).
I spoke to a salesman called Danny (or was it Sunny), who spent about 5 minutes pretending there was no such offer, despite me referring him to his own company's web page a number of times mercedesevent.co.uk.
First, he said he had no idea about the event, as they had "so many promotions". Then, he pretended not to see the page, as if he was blind or I was making the whole thing up.
He then said he would call me back after he checked with his boss.
He calls me back, and says the price is the non discounted price, and that he still couldn't find any offer on the internet. He then asks me to go down and show him on his computer!!!
When I asked whether the car was on site, he said it was not as it locked up somewhere (and he didn't know where), and it may well be sold.
At this point, I asked to speak to his manager, whose name I forget. I explain to the manager who says he will investigate, and call me back.
Salesman calls me back 5 minutes later, and says please come see the car, it's on site. We are open from 1030am on Sunday. Then says price is the non offer price.
At that point, I said no thank you and ended the conversation.
I know they are not bound to sell the car at the advertised reduced price from a contract law point of view.
However, they really came across as a bunch of complete utter amateurs at best, and dishonest time wasting toe rags at worst.
By far the worst sales experience I have ever had in decades with ANY Mercedes dealer or in fact any car dealer.
Do they really think that folks who are enquiring about £40k cars are that gullible and stupid?
