Mercedes W114 250 Coupe - help!

Fitted the repaired bellow to a front seat and despite my concern when not under vacuum the lock mechanism on the seat retracts to fully open, so the seat should release completely.

That's both seat bases re-done with the adjusting mechanisms all now fitted. I want to change the seat angle adjusters, but little point for the time being as they'll be one of the last things to be installed.

That's a nice piece of rescue work Charles. There is pride to be taken in getting these things properly sorted.
Will the actuators for the door locks require similar attention?

Disassembling the doors did not reveal any actuators - I think mine lacks central locking.

My W123 had central locking and I assumed your W114 would too - based on the presence of the vacuum seat locks. You wont miss it. Not on a two door car, and if it was present I can guarantee you leaky valves at the door handles would need sorting. The palaver to lock my W123 before the vacuum dissipated was absurd.

It certainly was an option, but like you, I can't see I'll miss it at all.

The central locking- in addition to the doors will lock the boot and petrol filler flap. :dk:

Not for you purists but I converted all the 107 vacuum C/L to electric. Replaced the actuators with electric ones and ran the wires for them down the yellow vacuum pipes and up to a remote C/L unit under the dash.

Seemples. :D

No sign of vacuum lines or actuators in boot or petrol filler area. I think my car predates people siphoning off fuel - 73 onwards!

That's a very helpful vid Graeme.

Oddly I was thinking about electric actuators for the seat locks if the bellows couldn't be repaired.

Fuel pump arrived just now from the new Mr Postman who is both very nice and a dead ringer for Mooen Ali, the England batsman and spin-bowler. Given the weather is dreich I'll concentrate on fuel system this weekend.

I've ordered one weld on fuel injector boss to get the exact dimensions for drilling out the fuel rail, and two M12x1.5 adapters in jic6 to connect either end of the rail to the piping (no bright blue or red bits will ever be used in my fuel system, I promise), so the rail will have to be drilled out to M12 x 1.5 spec at either end.

The pump is from a version of the M110 using KJetronic, so it would make sense to replicate the rest of that fuel system - filter and the bits in between that and the fuel rail, so I'll look into that.

Interesting delivery....

Nice up here - where the word originated, strangely.

Do you have a plan for marking the rail prior to drilling?

Yes, he pitched it up, gave it a bit of drift but it was outside the line of off stump so I was not out.

Cold, drizzle, grey and dank did seem to call for the term.

Marking the rail - a good question, I plan to give the machine shop the spare head, the desired length of the rail and tell them to drill the rail to match the injector holes in head, that way my measuring errors can't be at fault.

I always spell things krekly.

This thread has some good pictures of the orginal D -jet fuel pump setup.

I'm hoping the replacement pump and filter should fit the existing brackets and the metal box protector (a total rust trap). The accumulator will have to be found a home somewhere further along.

Found out the SM's replacement TPS has had to be re-orientated to fit the existing system, and also got hold of the idle air control valve part number (typically for a Porsche so expensive) but plenty of BMW ones of like orientation that are much cheaper.

Reference to my previous remarks ---don't know if a non CIS system = SEQUENTIAL [ megasquirt] injection requires an accumulator--- maybe a damper in the fuel return line a la BMW. :dk:

Answer - the fuel pump is designed for a Kjet system with it. It won't impair performance so I'd rather retain it (even if marginal utility) than dispense.

Amusingly I was going over all the details of the fuel system upgrade with Simeon to plan the next stage of work, and he strolled over to his parts rack where he had the exact accumulator, filter and hose connections for the various bits - all bought in for an SL whose owner had then cancelled the work. So no need to find those.
