Mercedes W114 250 Coupe - help!

Incidentally, I am 95% certain that the second colour of those two will be the one I choose. It will work exceptionally well with the red interior.

Yes Charles that colour would look great.

I tried to like the current colour, not many with red interiors. It is subtle, with a nice hint of grey, but it flattens the lines of the car and is just a bit washed out. It also makes the red look brash. This is the result - the SE has real mass, so can just carry it off:

I posted this Brazilian video simply because I rather liked the square [rectangular?] spot lights- possibly made by Hella and evidently often found on the front end of Volvos at one time.

I like the round in square shape - it matches the lines of the car well.

Don't like the price though!

Apart from ensuring there is the necessary loom, I'll hold off on further luxuries as the wallet is thin enough from the essentials. Those are more reasonable (but only for Germany - little do they know!).

They were often fitted to the Volvo 300 SERIES so you never know--- if you keep an eye out in any scrapyards you visit??

Point taken on the budget.;)

Found good original o/s front wing, so parts list falling rapidly.

Off for some remaining bits and pieces this weekend.

Checking in from a sunny Lancashire (don't adjust your sets). Picked up a good oil cooler, some steel wheels not in need of shot blasting and a replacement cylinder head with lovely shiny camshaft and everything the right colour. The existing and new one will be sent off for checking and the better of each will be merged into one and refurbished if required.

Despite the distance it is so much better to check things before buying.

Probably.

Decision made. Original engine configuration it will be. Finding a good camshaft and bits completes that engine so with it running it will be enough to get the process moving on.

The only parts of the Megasquirt puzzle remaining is sorting how to mount the TPS (find a later throttle body or adapt current) and whether the flywheel can take the mounting for a CPS.

I still need to locate a kick down set up for the auto, and also work out what to do with the donor S class...

Oh, and I've just bought a complete set of coupe seats with headrests in good condition in Germany for £140. :bannana:

A timely aide memoir?

And from that potential V8 conversion thread 1976 Mercedes 240D M117 5.5 liter | Retro Rides and despite your previous bad experience surely this sort of thing isn't going to break? :dk:

Look at fitting something like a BMW throttle body from a BMW 2.5 M20 but you'll need an adaptor made to mate to your inlet manifold. I think the best place to mount a CPS is at the crank pulley.

Are you going to fire up the engine before fitting EFi?. Might be wise.

edit: Just now saw Grober's post. Excellent thread on Efi.

I am going to try and get it fired up yes - all the D jet is there, the loom looks entire, sensors all in place, although dizzy is bad, I'll fit a 123 one (not W123) anyway as it is needed. What I won't do is troubleshoot the D jet as that is labour burning. I am fitting new fuel pump and lines.

The engine will be coming out for the repaint so I can explore the flywheel, which is my preferred site for the CPS but if that isn't feasible, front crank pulley it will have to be, but hopefully with the benefit of knowing how not to do it! That mount looks rock solid Graeme and bolts into something rock solid. That helps.
