Mercedes W114 250 Coupe - help!

Just spent the better part of the evening getting my itinerary to pick up my coupe seats in Northern Germany down to KHM in Esslingen, flying out next week and returning the following day. So Dusseldorf - Herford - Esslingen and Stuttgart (which airport is 15 mins away from KHM). One day car hire and the opportunity if the driving is flowing to enjoy a trip to the MB museum.

Steel wheels all now blasted and repainted and returned, so things move ever upwards, except my bank account...

What a gem of a thread! I think the guy concerned used to post on here. I am happy now with my decision to can the V8, especially seeing the subframe mods. I must admit if mine had needed that amount of welding etc it would be razor blades by now.

Looking at the thread immediately reminded me of someone on this forum embarking on a similar project back when I joined in 2010. From memory he had a car with wire wheels as his inspiration.
Canning the V8 idea was definitely the right thing to do. A bare knuckle fight in an engine bay.

The only theoretical issues now to solve are related to installing an auto - I have everything (I think) apart from the kick down switch set up and the brake / auto lock mechanism (which that thread mentions). I have the box, fluid coupling, thrust plate, dipstick, speedo feed, linkage and gear selector, anything else missing?

Plus, how easy would it be to knock up a kick down set up from other MB models if I continue not to be able to find one from the W114/115?

Hopefully the card from Parcelforce yesterday means my remaining wing will be here today. With one car just off the drive to be sold, I have more room to turn the coupe round (and get my SM out for Easter).

If it is merely an electrical switch any (micro even with suitable relay) switch anywhere on the throttle linkage should suffice I'd imagine.

Parcelforce has delivered my wing!
Easter bunnies dance and sing!
Unless Mr Foxy with any luck
Gets 'em ere they start to

Stuck on the last line.

So, wings and bonnet in their amazing coloured coats. A (cocktail) can of Irn Bru to the first to name those colours correctly and which of the colours I'll be painting the car. Really pleased, all wings have next to no corrosion anywhere and cost a noticeable amount less than pattern ones would have.

Deffo colour on the right for me--- could be Beige grey 728, Tunis Beige 462 or Anthracite grey 172 depending on ambient light conditions the other are too light for me and might be overwhelmed by the strong red interior trim. :dk:

The one on the left looks like 90% probability Hellblau 334 or 10% Horizontblau 304 but only the latter is listed on the W114/5 paint code site.

The middle is most probably 422 Byzanzgold (strong copper element) or 419 Ikonengeld

The right hand one I'd say is either 462 Tunisgold or 467 Sandbeige (my money is on the latter).

However, none of the above is the correct answer. Hopefully after the Easter Octave I'll put everyone out of their misery!

That is because having popped in yesterday to check the wood re-veneering, it is only halfway through curing prior to polishing and finishing, and of course the colour has to work with the wood too.

Large bribes normally help.

I rather like Tunis beige metallic

While I know you aren't too keen on the "browns/golds/beiges/bronzes" Charles the one thing they have going for them is they are redolent of the 70's They just don't exist to any extent now so they immediately announce the car as something from a different era . :dk:

I'm being really open-minded about everything at the moment, apart from V8s.

Nick Froome popped in the other day after going to look at a W124 coupe (shockingly neglected with low miles) and we both really liked this colour, which would work with red, but a deeper ox-blood. However, I am vexing the body shop guys with loads of requests in my pursuit of perfection.

A digression, but isn't the sheer range of lovely colours such a delight, and with what splendid names - Ikon and Byzantine Gold, Arab grey, dark olive, Tunis beige, English red etc, so exotic.

Rolls Royce did a very similar colour Brewster Green.
