Mercedes W114 250 Coupe - help!

That's great, very kind of you and much appreciated! I will send you a PM.
Ok then, with a bit of luck the brushes on my motor may be good. If not I am sure new brushes can be sourced or made for it.

Happy to send it to you for the cost of postage Sam, but I would counsel that Billy the auto-electrician at CCPS thinks the bushes are so degraded they will need replacing.

NB. Bushes and brushes are two totally different things.

I never even noticed you said bushes and not brushes in the previous reply. I must have motors on my mind!

I have tried sending you a PM Charles and it has not come up in my sent items. Have you received anything?

No progress on the car but picked up my new drivers side sill from Mercedes Leeds Along with my cls brake parts.
There is a lovely 1956 190 SL parked at the parts department! Remembered to take a quick photo this time!

Lovely colour! They are nice, if somewhat slow, things!

Fantastic tale and what a brilliant result! I love that tartan interior and the ivory colour is stunning.

The bit about the parts being strewn all over the place has special resonance with me...

I thought it might Charles - keep on keeping on! It is a difficult thing a full on restoration - you are essentially replicating much of the manufacturing process outside of the factory environment. Huge cost, lots of time and endless little problems to resolve...

Once you have been through it you come to realise just how cheap those "expensive" restored cars are...

I'm afraid the 190 SL of that era was indeed Mutton dressed as Lamb in the performance stakes being a rather anaemic clone of its full fat fuel injected 300 SL ROADSTER cousin. Very similar in aspect but a mighty difference in performance.:(

Popped up to CCPS and D&M today on parts run. Really cracking on now - interior of car has been cleaned out and painted, front suspension now replaced, steering box being refitted along with the damper and arms, and John will be cracking on with the rear suspension later today.

A tantalising glimpse

Wish me luck, tomorrow I attempt to cut the firewall insulation into shape from my templates.

An ultra sharp knife may be the key to an enjoyable day, scalpel blades if you can get them. Try a drawing supply Company...

The local craft store has been raided. I'm not sure the circular cutting tool will get through the insulation, but once it's in the rest should be easier.

Make sure you get yourself a comfortable working environment too Charles, large table nice and high, strong lights e.tc. e.t.c. Take your time to set things up properly for a good result.
And as Dave Allen once said "it's ok to pr1ck your finger - but it's not ok to finger your pr1ck! :):)
