Just interested to see how my mpg stacks up with other MB's

Out of my C200K manual I am managing 33.5mpg on my journey to work have hit 34.4 once :bannana: My 318Ci only managed around 32 mpg.

To me seems quite good for the engine/size of car any one prepared to declare there mpg?

c200 w202 (no kompressor) 27 ave 34 max 19 worst!

Between 18 and 20 normally.
My dad has produced a fuel conditioning unit and I fitted one on Sunday.
It is a set of magnets and sits around the fuel inlet pipe.
It is said to increase performance, lower emmisions and increase mpg.
I normally get about 225 miles to a tank full, so will give it a couple of weeks to settle in and then report back with the results.

I average around 25mpg. Need to fill the tank usually when it's at 280 but have pushed it to 300 or a tad more when on a nice steady run - but that's boring :D

Driving like miss Daisy 330 on a tankfull :D

Driving like I nicked it 220ish :(

Best on the Mway with the cruise set

On a 320 mile trip consisting of mainly motorway with some cross country at the end I got 38 mpg out of mine. Thats the best ever. Usually its more like 26 mpg which are shorter 10-20 mile trips.

best was 380miles on one tankful, that was followed by a 62ltr fill-up which meant it was literally running on fumes! The worst so far, has been 230miles, consisting mainly of town driving.

I average 26mpg which is a mixture of m/way and country lanes to work, plus the usual ferry service about town. On a trip to Scotland I got 34 mpg not bad for a 2.8ltr, I filled up with 480 miles on the trip meter.

Ive hit :bannana: 50.2MPG :bannana: once or twice on a long run using cruise. But driving more sensibly  i average 46MPG

Hey but i do drive a Diesel

Reading this thread is interesting and I would like to throw two points into the pot.

1. Is it more economical to drive using cruise control?
2. Is it good practice to allow the fuel level to get to low?

Regards to all contributors,
John

1. Cruise can actually use more fuel as it will be more reactive to maintain speed than you being gentle on the throttle, depends on your usual dribving style.

2 Not as much of a problem as it use to be although running the tank dry can casue any dirt or debris from the bottom oif the tank to be sucked into the engine. But not heard of any recent problems on any newer cars.

on a flat piece of road it is probably better to use cruise because you will be maintaining the same speed/revs throughout, but when you come to hills I think a different strategy is required, just not sure what :) .

If you always do so then yes, if you have less fuel in the car it will weigh less obviously, which should reduce fuel consumption slightly. If you've never let your car run to nearly empty before and it's done hundreds of thousands of miles then you might have built up a layer of chemicals on top of the fuel in the tank, running it to empty will cause all these chemicals to go through the engine and *could* cause minor damage, although TBH I think that's more of an urban myth than anything and was probably started about 50 years ago when fuel wasn't as clean.

Hi

I had a C220cdi with 3000miles on clock for three weeks while my E300Td was getting repaired and every evening the computer said that my Mpg was above 50 and on 2 occasions i managed to get it to read 61mpg.
I loved playing with this toy and was expecting the average mpg to be 50 ish but was amazed when worked out the real consumption figure was 45mpg.
I could not possibly have driven any more economically i would have been quicker walking.

Sometimes these computers are not as accurate as we think.

230K

PS 88 190E 26-35mpg sold
96 C230K 28-34mpg sold
93 300TD 30-36mpg
98 E300TD 30-37mpg 570miles/tank

Hello
I normally get on average of 27 with a little highway and around town. I have managed on a run at a steady 90 miles an hour 34 mpg which aint bad.
Should you be a little heavy footed in town then I have had 22 mpg.

Cheers
Ian

Anywhere between 12 and 26 although longest run so far was only 30 miles long sad really - the 230K is about 15% better, overall my trips tend to be short so mpg not good.

...cruise control would, I think use more fuel, when there are lots of hills and inclines. People tend to keep their right foot still and accept a little reduction in speed when going up a hill. On the flat, I don't think there would be much difference.
Driving conditions have a big impact - town, suburbs, motorway
Driving "attitude" has an impact, but is less of a factor on the motorway than in town or suburbs.
I'm currently monitoring my fuel consumption pretty accurately, noting driving conditions, fuel levels, mileage. Then I'm going to swap from 95 to 98 and see if this makes a difference.
Rgds
Les
