Mercedes 270CDI Coolant Warning Light & Limp Mode.
Last night I experienced the Coolant Warning Light come on while we were travelling in Edinburgh. It was just before midnight and the warmest day of the year still showing 21 degrees. So I believed it was just a warning for low coolant level. I went into the garage and checked the coolant level and it was fine. The temp was all normal on the gauge so was a bit baffled untill I discovered it was now in limp mode.
This morning I did the usual checks of fuses and found nothing wrong so then into MBClub threads for some assistance.
Discovered the maxi terminal fuse threads regarding blown fuse and the tell tale signs of Heated Seat LED lights flashing but not engaging.
Stripped the connections of the battery and checked the fuse. It looked fine but removed it all and cleaned all the terminals and the fuse and replaced. The problem was still present. The warning light was still illuminated on the dash board and limp mode was still present, not revving above 3000.
So I returned to the MBClub threads and discovered the submissions regarding a hidden fuse that is located under the secured section of the fuse box located under the bonnet.
I removed the usual section of the fuse box. I then loosened five small hex screws that secure the cover to access the area behind the normally accessed fuse box area.
I noted the small fuse holder and a RED 10Amp fuse located on a right and side of concealed fuse box secured by a slide mount.
I checked the fuse and as stated in previous threads it was blown. I replaced with a new 10Amp fuse and all was back to normal.
Limp mode was now cancelled and the dash board orange coolant level radiator symbol light was now off. Heated seats operation lights now back to normal. The complete job checking and cleaning the terminal maxi fuse was about fifteen minutes. The job of replacing the hidden fuse behind the fuse box FIVE minutes. Car now back to normal and driving as normal.
We have had it seven years and the second owner and it has covered 99000 miles exactly.
What a great original thread this was and saved me lots of problems as we are just about to trade the car in. I cant thank the people who submit these threads enough for their help. Thanks. Kev.
