Went to the lakes yesterday Sunday(91 miles) set cruise to 71mph and in return i got 40.8mpg only speeding up to pass slower cars maybe to 80mph not any faster as i had my 2 children in ,and the roof down is this bad , i then drove home at 56mph on the way back for 30 mins and it was worse dropped to 34.6mpg is this due to weight of the car going up and down minor hills on motorway only being a 200k model ,i thought at 56mph it would have gone up to say more then doing 71 mph................:)

MPG is not just about cruising at a set speed, there are many variables that will affect MPG. Some cars are more economical at certain speeds and it will probably take you a little while to 'learn' the one for yours!

My last car, a C270 used to average 52MPG at a steady 75MPH but only about 48MPG at 50/60MPH!!

I wouldn't worry too much, as long as you are happy with the car.

40.8mpg is very good indeed, I'd be happy with that in a 200k.

With all else being equal driving at 56mph will give better mpg than at 71mph. So I guess those hills had quite an effect.

Don't forget that the prevailing wind direction and speed will have an effect too. If the wind was behind you on your way out and you had a headwind on way back...this will have made the difference.

I must say there was only one problem ,but not an issue for me , just incase anybody is thinking of buying a 200k , a few times i did have to drop a few gears around coniston where as my tdi 130 passet just takes it, thats my only niggle, i love it ,its smooth and quite once or twice i thought the engine had stopped and tried starting it again, im going again next week ill try 71 but without cruise on , that cruise is funny when you have not had it before you feel the engine pull forward, strange feeling, i wish it would steer as well lol :o

Cruise is great but only really good if going on straight, long roads with not much in the way of incline etc.
