The key wont turn in the ignition barrel of my 190D as its stuck on the off position I cannot remove the barrel any advise as how to remove it and can it be fixed.. Believe it or not have just replaced her with a 94 S280 and sold her.. Think it must have sensed something lol

To make it worse the bonnet flipped up on the S-Class landing me with a big repair bill and a unhappy wife and a pattern bonnet the would fit a escort better than my merc!!

Concur with Dieselman, indentical thread there from Neil ;)

What I would say is to have another try. There's a chance that eventually you'll be able to get the key to turn which should make the replacement process easier :)

Best of luck,

Will

Agree with both above posts.
Would add that if you do get it out try covering the key blade with graphite using a pencil. Might help or delay re-occurance of problem. Old AA trick.

Thanks fo4r the responce so I take it that the key does not have to be in position 1. got the key to move and worked for about an hour made the tool and it jammed again. try for over an hour at a time every night this week no luck can I drill the barrel?

Sad thing is have sold her think car knows and has taken a strop lol

Yes key needs to be in position 1 to extract the barrel (or is it position 2).

Done sort of belive it or not . What a pig of a job it was the steel shroud was solid in the end dropped the steering ground the security pin. I then had to drill the barrel to get it to turn to position 1. It still would not leave its home so I split the steel shroud and had to use a bit of gentle persuation with a cold chisel and hammer to remove the barrel..
Does anyone know the part number for the shroud??

As a testiment to the car I had to move it at the end of Dec as the Road tax expired, the car has been laid up since the beginng of Sept and started off the Key in sub zero temps  what a gem
