My C43 AMG - Upgrade ideas?

Cool, cheers everyone.

Forgot to mention my first upgrade - Cuptronic :) Imported the proper Merc cupholders from the US, was disappointed it didn't have any.

I'll have a look at my MAF tonight, if it's anything like my golf's I'll know whether it's getting abused or not, and I'll have a look at the airbox/filter too.

If you look at my signature that is what i have done and there are lots of photo's in the Gallery, if i could i would put up a link (anyone out there :) ) the only mod i don't have is the parktronic and the OEM parktronic looks like an after though the aftermarket ones look a lot better, less obtrusive.

Can anyone point me at the album? I searched but found nothing.

Cheers

BTW, i was doing a bit of speculative research on number plates and found the obvious one (C43 AMG) is on a C43 AMG - bah :( Anybody on here by any chance?

I seriously hope you didn't pay more than about £20, that's all they are from the parts counter at your local stealership!

Haven't they gone up loads recently though?

I remember when they used to be £20 about five years ago, not so sure anymore though?

Will

If you go into the Members Gallery not the "All Albums, then page 13 dated 17/08/2007 you will find the photo's

Thanks

They added a wee bit of extra bass to the induction (and maybe engine note, seeing how they sit flat on top of the block), I've just always fitted K&N to all my cars as I prefer serviceable filters to disposable ones and think they give just that little extra bit of driveability.

Any particular reason you'd swap them though?

i dont know if this has been awnsered but i have owned a few 202s... and changing the filter for a third party one usually makes the MAF fail.. and there really expensive to replace...

Even a high quality K&N one, properly oiled and kept clean? I've never had a problem on other MAF'd cars I've run.

Which type of MAF is it, foil or element?

Hrm, maybe I will switch back just to be cautious, I had a look at the filters, MAF and air box last night and it looked fine but there was a reasonable amount of dead flies etc on the 'dirty' side (air intakes being where they are).

Luckily the original filters were almost brand new when I removed them so I still have them.

It's the oil that kills them.

I've had a green cotton airfilter in my current c230k and previous for over 6 years and about 150k miles with no MAS problems.

a green cotton failed my 210 maf..but that's my personal experience.. and k&n failed both my MAF's on my 202s... its a personal thing.. it doesent really add anything amazing to the car.. i just stick with stock and have had no problems..

I have the Green Filter on the C43, no problems.

what is the gain of green filter over the OEM one? infact what is the gain of any filter over the OEM one? more noise and accelerated wear of induction components?

We'll find out Saturday when I get the C43 dynod, one run with normal and one run with K&N :D

Do post the results as I would be very interested in the results, are your standard filters new? as apparently the performance figures do drop off quite quickly as the filters get old, so unless your MB filters are new you may get a false comparision.
FYI, new standard MB filters are approx. £80 for the C43.

That's what I paid for 2 K&N!

Yeah, I changed them with about 1K miles done since the service so they're fresh as a daisy.

Will post scans of dyno sheet, apparently they do 3 runs but only print your best (Eh!? Sheet of A4 that expensive?!) so you'll have to trust me for the numbers on the other 2.

I'm only going in it because my Golf's off the road and I'd already booked a spot (it's a Corrado group booking) and I'm very interested to see what 135K has done to the power.. I'm taking bets on over/under 300bhp :D

Will make sure I get a video too, gotta love the AMG V8 roar...

299 bhp i'm saying ;)

The OEM filter is a large, cardboard thing and the aftermarket "sporty" ones are thin, cotton/woven affairs.

On the 230k the engine makes a little more noise and it feels slightly more eager, don't know if this is easily expressed on a dyno though as it's "response" we're talking about. 0-60 times might tell.

differance is minute, only really noticable when put together with other performance mods

Well, the fact you don't have to replace them every other service is fairly beneficial too. And you can clean them.
