My new SL320 R129

I think I will need to do the same to my roof. I started with a brush and a vacuum cleaner on my toy Brabus roadster coupé. That got it really clean. Then used some products which I can't recall...

Renovo hood renovation kit will do a great job. Did my Allard (a large double duck hood) and it now looks as new.

very nice indeed i think the dark colours suit this model best

So I have had the car a couple of weeks or so and I am really enjoying it. Once you look at the detailing needed you can see what's got to be done to make it right. So the list of jobs which I have found for the moment is reasonably simple but there's a fair few of them. Some will be farmed out, others will be done by me. If anyone has recommendations do please tell me where, what and how...

- Refinish the wheels in metallic silver powder coat (Birmingham City Powder Coaters).
- Fit new covers over the sun visor mounts (in process).
- Have two paint bubbles repaired on lower edge of the pan' roof ("Chips Away" or similar).
- Repair dash illumination (done - thread elsewhere).
- Remove, tidy and repaint the headlamp wiper arms (will do it in our workshop).
- Re-connolise the backrest of the drivers seat as it is stained (find a Midlands specialist).
- Repair non functioning rear centre brake light (explore, but have seen threads).
- De-badge the rear. (I love the slab look of R129s with just the MB star on the boot).
- Remove and polish or re-finish the exhaust tip (seen threads).
- Clean carpets properly and scrub up dirty seat belts (will look for advice later).
- Buy new ribbed over-mats (from classicmercedesmats.co.uk).
- Repair the electric aerial which is shonked (I have a new internal for it - hope it's not motor).
- Have the paint cleaned, polished, sealed (I have found a valeter nearby).
- Investigate driver's squab heating not working. (hmmm ... all the rest is fine).
- Investigate head unit swap as the Becker Grand Prix display is blue/red not MB orange.

I will post bits and pieces on this thread and others if anyone is interested. The aim is to keep ticking away at it through the next few months and have it immaculate to pull out in the spring... or on a sunny winters day for an open top blast.

^^ PS to the above ... I forgot the following:

- Use Renovo hood repair kit to get the roof back to super nick.
- maybe look under the bonnet in spring?!

^^ Damn ... another thing remembered:

- Re-do the cloth on the two small door panels that cover the speakers, and then make sure everything is properly screwed down in the passenger door as the bass rattles something when the stereo is turned up.

- Investigate driver's squab heating not working. (hmmm ... all the rest is fine).

The elements will probably have broken down - drivers side takes the most wear and usage so is always the first to go. The heating mats were NLA at one point, not sure if that is still the case.

The radio antenna is very likely to be just the mast ... a 5 minute job to replace, and not expensive.

A spare mast came with the car... Easy? I can turn anything into a saga.

Thanks for setting the benchmark though. :-)

Thanks for this - mine is broken off really ... and looks seized. I will now investigate according to the link.

Cheers

I tackled that job on mine, ended up installing a whole new third party unit and I'm keeping the mast clean and lubricated with the Hirschmann wipes. I've got a spare Hirschmann H04 mast if you need.

The motor is dead ... no sound of whirring, turning, etc.

Thanks anyway Bill - looks like I need a new R129 aerial now. Hmmmm....

So, which fuse and where? Don't know much about my car yet.

Could always try a breakers mate if all else fails I think they are pretty pricey from mb
