Never had points

I don't know how all you guys have managed to escape. Round here (East Hampshire), the local council has made huge stretches of our roads 30 mph. The Police enforce them with randomly placed "Safety Camera" Vans. My family have accrued many points for entering the villages at 36 mph......
I do of course realise that we are serious criminals and that is reflected in the dim view (and extra premiums) taken by our insurance companies.

As with most things "Prevention is better than cure" not that I am condoning speeding but I do have a problem with cameras being used for revenue generation under the banner of "Safety Partnership Causualty Reduction"

You can easily make your car invisible to safety camera vans, there are plenty of good GPS based devices out there to warn of Fixed Post Cameras. The only way I will ever get caught is by being stopped on a following check by Vascar and the like, but even then the odds are with you, how many cops do you see on the motorway / roads doing speed checks? If they stop you its usually because of erratic driving, lane discipline and downright dangerous speed.

Think my perfectly clean license is testamony that these devices work ;)

Tell me more!

How is the device you posted about a couple of months ago Ian?

Regards

Paul.

Works perfectly, I know on a couple of high speed motorway runs I've had,the device has alerted to a motorway camera van laser strike but never had a NIP and the speed I was travelling certainly would have generated one.

I'm still using Pocket GPS world camera database on my TomTom which can't be beaten in the UK definitely the best there is, but in Europe the PGPW camera database is useless. So I use the Inforad warning device which I also posted about a while ago. Its small discreet and looks like a memory stick so ideal for countries where they are not allowed and easy to conceal if you do get stopped, no one would ever think it's a camera warning system.

Well pleased with the set up I have :)

on my licence. If I get to December 13th this year it will be 20 years since a policeman had a word with me. What are you all like?

Had my licence 27 years (bikes and cars) and never ever stopped for speeding until Wednesday.

I was mortified.

Fortunately I was also let off.

Ive had a car license for 23 years now and never had any points or speeding fines in the UK. Mind you I did get stopped for speeding in Riyadh and locked up in clink for a few hours as part of a speeding crackdown, I paid the 'fine' and got let out. Have made a concious effort to drive within the speedlimit ever since!.

No points in 15yrs driving.
Ironic wife got summons yesterday for 38 in 30 zone (I was reading in passenger seat!). She told me that she got 6points in a day in the past...

So what is the procedure re a summons- is it automatically a court appearance or can one opt to pay fine or even do driver training & be let off?

I should add I've never had points in 33 years driving. Only had a quick chat once in 1989.

Had my license for 29 years now. Never had any points on it. Had one friendly chat from a policeman about 12 years ago, but that's about it.

I applied for my first license the day I was 16 to ride my BSA Bantam, 175cc 46 years ago, clean license ever since, more luck than judgement!

If this had come up a week or two back i would also be saying i have a clean licence. I had a letter through the post four days ago for passing one of those fine vans doing 72 in a 50. Why its 50 i dont know as it's a straight dual carriage way in a non built up area. this road was always 70 up until the last few years when the council went mad putting lights everywere and reducing the limits. it now takes twice as long to cross town well done them. I am thinking of contesting it as the van was parked ilegally on the grass on the side of the dual carriage way that you're not allowed to stop on. anyone know what my chances are.

I was caught speeding in 2004. Got the usual letter in the post, signed the forms and got 3 points. Then, I was overtaking a lorry on the A9 South of Inverness, 67mph. Kept on going to Glasgow. Got back to Caithness 3 days later, letter in post clocked for speeding. This was especially annoying as believe it or not it was exactly 3 years 364 days since I last got points.

Decided that the police could have used their unofficial rule of 10% +4 mph which would be 70 mph, so I went to court, pleaded my case and got another 3 points and £60 fine because according to the sheriff, Im a serial speeder. Unbelievable.

Now stuck with 6 points for another 3 years.

So you were done for 67 mph in a 60 limit?

Unlucky if so, because the ACPO guidelines say fixed penalty from 68 mph:

Although your speedo was probably showing 70 ish.

Ooh... That is harsh.

Another 3 points because of someone elses opinion.

A certain Clapton song springs to mind...

But I swear it was in self defence..

Im still on my paper licence with handwritten speeding offences.

Just looked at it and i have been a good boy for 2.5 years now, well lucky anyway:D

Nothing for the last 12 years.

Managed to get stopped by the coppers twice in one day - 1 let me off, 1 cost me £40 and 3 points back in 1997 for doing approx 95 on the M-way.

Nothing since (except a flash in Germany and one in Dubai that never materialised!).
