New Fuel tank needed....I think

Hi,

I've recently purchased a secondhand CLK C320 Avantgarde, unfortunately after a day of owning the car a very strong petrol smell is present in and around the car when driving and afterwards (moreso around the passenger side of the car in the middle). I took a look underneath the hood and couldn't see any visible leaks, started the engine and checked underneath and can see fuel dripping fast from two places (6-9 inches apart) onto the exhaust towards the back of the car underneath the rear seat passenger side, I couldn't see exactly where this was coming from but guess it is either a hole in the fuel tank or a hose connected to the tank. I'll check for the exact location tomorrow after I jack the car up but just wondered if anyone would know a spares dealer or other location where a new fuel tank could be purchased from? Also...any idea on the price for it?

Thank you for your help

Howard

Update

I've been able to get underneath the car today and have a proper look, the problem doesn't appear to be the fuel tank but the fuel pipe, there looks like a metal bracket that is holding two pipes and bolted (one bolt) to the underside of the car the leak looks like it is coming from underneath the bracket and the fuel is dripping onto the exhaust below.
Does anyone know of a fix for this? I'm guessing it is a new fuel line that I need but has anyone replaced the hose before and am I right in thinking this hose is between the fuel tank and fuel pump or filter?

Thank you

Howard

Welcome Howard.

You need to get this looked at asap, do not drive the car if fuel is dripping onto the exhaust.

Fuel line problems are quite common and easily fixed with the correct replacement part. If you can get if off the car and take it to your local dealer they should be able to help.
