190E
Afternoon all,

I decided it was time to buy a car again when there was no longer any way of swinging a Young Person's Railcard. I decided any old car wouldn't do and that I'd get a big version of something I had a BBurago model of as a kid.

I've since realised the model was actually a W124, but I don't care, I love my 190 already. Despite its many faults.

Back in the days of my Y-reg Seat Ibiza, I realised the massive value of forums for buying advice, parts, technical help etc. and I'm hoping for the same from here - looks good so far. I have already used the forum's recommendations of Gem Tech to get a bit of work done - though my experience with them so far is decidedly mixed. Also joined the 190 forum and I've spotted a few others on both forums already.

Hi!

Hi and welcome to The Forum. Had a W201 myself a while back and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Welcome to MBClub

Lovely, my son has an almost identical one, black, evo 1 alloys, and very low :)

What engine is it?

These are the 15" 15 hole alloys but from a distance they can be mistaken for the Evo 1s so that will do for me.

It's going to go down 40mm as soon as I can afford shocks to partner the springs, my work colleague has a lowered one which looks so sleek next to this tank in the car park.

It's the 2.0 manual, I was originally after a diesel but the diesel manuals are hard to come by, especially in black, and I got impatient in the end. Only 85k miles, but it's spent a long time sitting around which seems to have taken its toll on a lot of the perishable parts.

You can lower them by 40mm with the original shocks. It's only when you go lower than that, that shorter shocks are needed.

You may find a number of Forum members who can help with spare bits and pieces. Now if you need 2 electric window switches still in the original packaging do let me know :thumb:

He has a 1.8 manual, lowered about 50mm, and has swapped the shocks for BMW E36 coil overs, which he tells me were plug and play as long as the wheels have the right offset.

He is running EVO 1's, off an r129, 16 x 8J, ET34. He had to roll the arches to make them fit.

I will take a few pics tomorrow, it looks good.

I was told, or had read, that it was better to swap shocks out at the same time just for peace of mind and not because they are incompatible. But if that's not necessarily the case then good news.

I don't need the switches but I do need to rear regulators actually. One has chewed itself up so badly it's bent the metal where the cable has been caught up in the machine. There's a long list of parts I need but I can't post it in the wanted section until I have 30 posts.

In short: Driver's door mirror, grey cloth door cards (at least two are blown), exhaust back box (mine has a non-standard one which doesn't fit flush), possibly a driver's seat (the usual bolster wear).

I love it but it's a money pit already.

Yeah I'd like to see it. Though it sounds like it might make me want to spend more.

Those Evo 1 wheels look great actually, I've just bought three new tyres but I will keep half an eye of for a pair.

No bonnet star?

Thanks but I best not at the moment, I can barely afford the desperately needed repairs let alone vanity upgrades now. If you've still got them in a month or two we'll see...
