New tyre time - Michelin Pilot Sport 3 or Continental Sport Contact 3?

My Goodyear F1's needed replacing so ordered some more but didn't arrive in time for my road trip so purchased 2 x Michelin Pilot Sports and wish I hadn't bothered. Nowhere near the grip of the F1's in damp conditions although good in the dry. Slightly louder as well which is irrelevant really as my engine and exhaust soon disguise that, but seeings as I have tried Conti 5's, Pilot sports and Eagle F1's, I will be staying with the F1's as they, for me, are top in all areas.
Fitted my Dunlop Winters yesterday as temps between 6deg C and -2 over next 10 days so will have some fun in the cold for a while now :)
 
Have to disagree completely. I've had Falken 452s in the past which were good at the price but I wouldn't put them on the CLS.


Try the Falken ZE912 or the latest version the ZE914, far better than the Bridgestones.

Rear - 7000 miles but non repairable as nail through the sidewall :crazy:

Still had 5mm left on the opposite side so now in garage as spare :thumb:

pretty hard wearing
 
i have the conti SC5's on my CLS and love them better than the Conti SC3's that i had previously-i had no problems with them either.
 
Try the Falken ZE912 or the latest version the ZE914, far better than the Bridgestones.

I'm new to the group but have just swapped an 2005 C270 estate for a 2011 C350 estate. The move has included an increase in wheel size from 17" to 18"
The difference in road noise inside the cabin is astronomical borderline unbearable (why I didn't notice on the test drive!!!)
I was looking for a quiet tyre to replace the PZeros that are on it, and the Mitchelin PS3 looked quite good - I would be interested on more feedback

Not doubting you but why, if don't mind me asking? Lighter, nicer steering or possibly both, improved suspension feel, better wet braking, less road noise? I ask as I think a lot of comments made about new tyres is rather subjective when driving daily unlike proper testing. All new premium tyres to me anyway, always seem to be an improvement over any worn tyres, which they should as they're new.

Needing a new set for my CLS. Currently have continental CS3s. Grip is absolutely immense but I sense not great for fuel and also the sidewalls began to show superficial cracks when half worn at 18months.

Anyone have any updated guidance on CS3, PS3 or Goodyear eagle asymmetric? Reasonable offers on all of them on tyreleader etc. although I note some of them have a manufacturing date of 2012 which in the case of continentals were right where the "cracking" issue tyres were made.

Edit - also. There are a whole range of different CS3s in my size on tyreleader with wildly different ratings for fuel and wet grip. What the heck is that all about? Different compounds used for different years of manufacture of the tyre?

Just put conti sport contact 5 on front of my e class (rears have sport contact 3 on with plenty left) got the xL too so wall is stiffer to stop wearing the edges hopefully as much. There good no problems

I ran them and Pilot Cups on my 997 turbo
I had Conti 5's on my M5

The best tyre out of the lot is the Pilot Super Sport IMO. OK the Cup was in a different league but it was also a super soft track tyre.

I would not hesitate in recommending the PSS over any other tyre on the market currently.

Go for the Goodyear asymmetric 2. Great grip and very quiet.

Not sure what point you're trying to make, but as Falken are a brand name owned by Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd, who also own the Dunlop brand and had a deal with Goodyear where they agreed to manufacture tyres for each others markets, including Dunlop tyres, I think they know how to make top quality tyres.
They are one of the largest tyre manufacturers in the world and run their own Falken brand race series, I doubt there is anything wrong with the way they are made, but please enlighten us?

I've used both, and while the contis and the ps3s were similar in the dry, the ps3 had the edge, and in the wet I really like my ps3s. They cost more, but it's worth it.

True, Sumitomo do own the Japan side of Goodyear Dunlop together with others, ranked around 7th in world, but that does not mean to say the Falken side are produced to the same specifications/standards as others, otherwise their would be no money saving in selecting Falken over Goodyear Dunlop or even Bridge.

I'm not saying anything is wrong with Falken's construction but, some manufactures produce better constructed tyres, due to more money invested in R & D..

Falkens are as good if not better than most of the premium brands, nothing wrong with their construction. I once did a 20 hour high speed, non stop journey from South France/Spanish border to Glasgow on 4 Falkens and they were very impressive.
