I've just changed the thermostat on my W203 C270 and to make things a tad easier removed the oil filter which sits right in front of the stat. Not the easiest to remove with big hands, without a tool, but I managed it.

So can anyone advise which tool is needed and a supplier, I've looked online but not knowing if all C Class filters are the same, I can't find one that specifically lists the C270. Looking for a good quality one for next time.

P.S. I did change the filter and engine oil while I had it off.
I used Mobil 1 'New Life' 0w40 which according to my local dealer is the one Mercedes currently recommend. Obtained from EuroCarParts which worked out cheaper than the equivalent Halfrauds own brand.
Help appreciated :thumb:

I think it's a 14-face tool you need, but you'll need to measure it to determine if it's the Laser 4788 (84mm) or the 3117 (76mm) that you need. My guess is it's the 3117, which fits the IL6 320 according to the reviews, and my OM646 IL4. Your IL5 engine is from the same family as those examples.

You'll need a 3/8" drive socket wrench to use these.

I got mine from e bay seems ok. It was for a s211 e270 the size for that is 76mm with 14 flutes, you can just measure across your filter cap to be sure.

You can get the tool from Halfords, IIRC they are made by Laser tools. If you have a mate with a trade card take him down.

I would be using 0w-40 Turbo Diesel rather than new life. Costco are cheaper at around £28 for 5 litres.

Put 'Mercedes oil filter removal tool' in ebay - the choice is yours.
I got one 6 months ago to do exactly what you neeeded it for, all okay & worth having.
