Hi all,

Haven't posted here for a while, but here goes:

On my 1988 300 TD the attachment point for the power steering pump, which is part of the timing chain cover casting, has just broken and I'm facing crucial decisions.

Does anybody know if the head must be removed in order for the timing chain cover (located at the front of the engine) to be removed?

Thanks for any information.

Thanks 230K.

I've been able to check that I can remove the cover without dropping the oil sump. Now I suppose things are "tighter" topside.

If i cannot figure it out I'll probably end up calling my local MB dealer, but they may be "wrench happy" and not too bothered about charging you for a head job on top of the rest...
