OM642 PCV Upgrade

I did wonder how so much oily crap managed to find its way underneath - is that not normal then?

Definitely not , the swirl flap motor sits under that , the last thing you want is the motor soaked in oil.

so how would one avoid this if the xpipe has slots in?
Currently done 161k without and issues previously. I did clean off all the grime which was more solid than liquid.

I'd just leave it tbh.

ok, EML back on upon starting and not gone out...
Is this possibly caused by the change of PCV Valve?
I may have to fish out the old one from the bin and refit...:(

I'll hazzard a guess at, you unplugged both mafs . And maybe haven't plugged both back in ??

If you have unplugged the connectors near the pcv to get access to the bolts it will be worth opening them again and give them a clean with some cleaning spray. When I changed mine I had a code for the differential pressure sensor. Cleared and didn’t come back after a shot of magic spray. Good shout to check/clean the maf connectors too.

I'm not sure - i just unplugged the connector for the PCV and the 2 for the xpipe.
Would WD40 be ok to clean?
Thanks

Made use of my AA membership and they attended and we took the car for a DPF regen which seems to have cleared the code. (they got the same code re dpf sensor)
It's a bit strange the DPF was 100% full and needed regen as I had a 100 mile run last week?

Is the different PCV valve responsible for this?

Anyway, just cleaned all the contacts with contact cleaner. Let's see how she goes..

OK, EML on-again, proceeded to refit the original PCV valve but upon comparing the vale bodies are identical so left the new one fitted.
Cleared the code and will have a run tmrw -if the EML comes on again the AA suggested to contact them so I can get it repaired under my cover which includes repairs up to £550.
It's likely the differential pressure sensor.

replaced differential pressure sensor and cleared code. Not worth a claim on my AA cover and a trip to the garage - total cost of sensor £30.
Hopefully issue resolved now..

PXL_20220917_105135461~2.jpgPXL_20220917_105139850~2.jpgchanged mine at the weekend on my 350 bluefficiency. No symptoms or anything wrong, just changed based on mileage. As you can see,the old one was pretty worn. I assume it to be the original.

Anybody know of the top of their heads how much the PCV costs for the 265bhp OM642 engine? While changing some seals and doing some chores in the engine bay, I noticed excessive gunky oil build up on the big oval air intake seals, as well as some misting around these seals.

I’m guessing the PCV valve needs changing, though the car has only done 47k miles. It’s still 12 years old though.

It is a rubber diaphragm that is now 12 years old and rubber degrades with heat, oil and age

Okay, so I've just fitted the 'upgraded' PCV for my E350 CDI. I fitted part A6420102491. This is for the 265bhp engine, not the 231bhp engine that has a plastic body for the PCV valve.
A6420102491 is the upgraded PCV/breather hose, with the new integrated orange seal with 'tabs' permanently clipped on to the PCV hose end. This is only updated in EPC for the ML, S-class and possible R class.
The 'upgrade' ONLY relates to the orange seal on the end where it connects to the batwing I believe, and eliminates the risk of the previous 'push on' seal getting sucked into the turbo.

The part fitted like a glove, and looks identical in every way to the part that was removed, except for the end seal.
I truly believe Merc have messed up here and neglected to flow this 'upgraded' PCV to the E-class, whilst they have flowed it out to the other Class of Mercs that use the exact same PCV and part numbers.

New PCV partially fitted down the back of the engine. I thought there was plenty of room to make this swap, but I did unbolt the bracket you can see to the left to allow me to get a hand and tools in more easily.

I cleaned up all the batwing and took the opportunity to replace the orange turbo inlet seal and the two orange eliptical air filter seals (the existing ones were either filthy, or brown!). I also inspected the air filters, which look pretty clean, so it will be another 12 months before I look at those again, but I did vac off from underneath (very important that way round) the big bits of debris that had got through (leaves, dandilion flowers etc).

All reassembled and cleaned up a little bit, including removing and cleaning the rubber oil filler catch collar, which had every sort of filth and detritus collecting around it. I thought better to do this now, that risk a load of it falling in come oil fill time.

Engine cover back on and cleaned up.
I need to do an engine bay detail at some point. It's on the never ending list!

Thank you. I have never replaced the batwing air filter seals.

I replaced them yesterday because if your PCV is going they get seriously gunked up and basically turn black, and are a point where mist will be out onto the engine
