Guys I have an C63 on order and I'm being told that its due for pick up early october. Do I getvthe chance to change spec before the build date as I've had a change of heart on the colour (well the wife has)

Why not just ask the dealer for definitive information rather than waste time on here asking for advice from people who clearly cannot give it to you?

I assume you'll be calling the dealer in the morning as your question was posted after they would have been closed this evening. If it helps, I believe there is a deadline, prior to which you are able to make changes to the specification. As it's not due for delivery until early October, I would have thought that the deadline is still a little way away so you should be fine.

In fact, I made a change to the specification of my order after the deadline had passed. But as this was because the dealer didn't tell me there was a problem with my original spec until after the deadline, they got in touch with the factory via the people in Milton Keynes and were able to make the change even though the car was due to be built a couple of weeks later. The car is now ready to be delivered to the UK so I haven't actually seen it yet, but hopefully the change will have been successful!

What colour are you changing from and to, out of interest? Good luck with it anyway.

Yes i had decided after dealer closed today or i would have asked and not wasted anybodies time on here! As i was under the impression that this is the place to ask suck questions without having to wear a flame suit.
ksten i had chose tenorite grey but would now prefer diamond white

Are you not being a little precious? The dealer and MB are the only ones that can properly answer your question!

You're right, it is - a perfectly reasonable question......confirmed by post #4.

It's a tough lot on here!

I think the op was looking for some general advice in absence of the dealer, that is all!

Well I hope you manage to get what you want. October is still a fair way away, so I'm sure you'll be fine. Let us know how you get on.

But only the dealer can answer as only they know the true build date and the progress of the car / order through MB... if they have left a little slack in the delivery date the car could be further through the system and be beyond the point of no return... hopefully for the OP it isn't.

Perfectly reasonable and sparks a good discussion but you wont get a definitive answer, possibly informed opinion, possibly not..

IMHO you will be able to change spec right up to the planned build date but expect to take a hit on the delivery date.

100% agree but no harm in getting some feedback though, eh.

That's interesting. I know very little about the actual build process (One of the reasons I would have liked to have collected from the factory and done the tour). Why would a late change of spec affect the delivery date? Do you go to the back of the queue for parts or something?

Depends what changes you make and what parts are available. Also cars are built in batches... they don't wash down all the paint and change colour between cars you know...

I may have also suggested that the (relatively new) OP needed dealer input, however, I wouldn't have made him feel he'd been flamed.

Who benefits?

It might not.

They constantly build cars in varying specs (demo cars, lease company cars and so on) that do not necessarily have orders placed on them so to alter a spec during the manufacturing process isn't a big deal.

Thank you, that makes sense.

When I changed the spec of the trim on mine after the deadline had come and gone, the feedback I got from MB in Milton Keynes was that the factory would be very unlikely to be able to make the change. That was on a Friday and by the Monday they got back to me saying that they've "worked some magic" and the trim could be changed. Obviously, just their spiel to appease me of what was their mistake.

I guess they don't want everyone changing things at the last minute to make it easier for them to plan the builds.

As I said, it would have been an interesting tour for me to go on at the factory collection. Oh well, maybe next time.

Exactly!

I ordered a Mk3 Scirocco pre release and later changed the leather colour option.

They said they could just jump onto another general build and change it no problem.

I think the principle is pretty much the same amongst all manufacturers.

If the OP felt he has been "flamed", that was down to him but overall a fairly pointless question that only a telephone call to the dealer would have definitively resolved.
