hello i wanted to fit some parking sensors on a mclaren SLR, but as the body is made out of carbon fibre i was wondering where to get these fitted? Mercedes said they wont fit it as a retrofit? :dk:

Why the heck would you want to fit parking sensors to such a magnificent car??????

Don't know the answer I'm afraid :dk:

But would love to hear (and see?) more about the car. Is it yours or one you are working on?

Cheers!

It is possible to drill through carbon fibre. (link)

But would you add indicators to a F1?

edit: with gull wing door cars I believe the technique is to open the door and lean out looking backwards

It is my fathers car, and he has started to use it day-to-day, and is finding it very difficult to park it, as the visibility is next to 0. I shall upload some piccies now for you lot!

Thank you - I feel that will be welcomed by many!

With that fleet he can afford to employ Jeeves to park it :)

ahah nope, thats my driveway 599 is goin soon tho!

Ah the classic 599 v SLR v Bugatti dilemma...........I've been there many times myself ;)

Kin ell!

Nice collection, especially the Veyron

Still, I don't think I would fit parking sensors to the SLR!

Please don't penetrate that body shell with a drill...

Two options, I will chauffeur him around so long as I can use the car when he doesn't need it.

Alternatively have a look at the radio magnet type sensor that does not require drilling.
They literally stick to the inside of the bodywork without the need for holes.
They need to be 50cm from the ground for best results.

They are not as good as proper parktronic but they do work quite well.

Please please please dont drill it

Might want to 'fuzz' out those number plates before posting though.....

Not that I can imagine there being a huge cloning problem on Veyron's or SLR's!!

Would your father like a new friend? :D

Thanks for the pics - what on earth does he do? (if that is not too nosy!)

I personally would not add parking sensors to the SLR, but if i had to i would opt for the number plate surround with the sensors.

At least that way you keep the car original....

I suppose you should be thankful your dad dont want to do this in the Veyron ;)
