Hello everybody

Does anybody know how to set the "permanent" speed limiter i a 2001 w210?

Just put on wintertyres, and as I have to drive through Germany a couple of times this winter, I need to set the limiter to max. 190 km/h.

The car came with a manual from a pre-facelift model, and method described here doesn´t work on my car.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

It should be in your instrument cluster -- but if you can't find it why not just set your speedtronic to a setting that suits the conditions.....

Think that's cleared when you turn the ignition off though, so not ideal.

As mentioned, the permanent speed limit should be fairly easy to find in the cluster menus ... it's under 'settings' on my Vito.

What is 190 kph ? 130 kph is around 80 mph so we are talking around 120 mph....lets get real here - if you're driving anywhere near that with snow tyres on -- and its snowing or wet..... should you be driving a car??????

However you may find yourself driving on clear and dry unrestricted autobahn with your winter tyres on. Hence the option to permanently restrict the top speed of the vehicle to the speed rating of the tyres.

Hi guys

Thanks for you quick replies.

The limiter is not in the menus. The options are pretty limited (Clock, radio kmph/mph etc.)

In the pre-facelift model you´re supposed to hold the arm towards you in a couple of seconds with the engine off and the key in pos.2, but this doesn´t seem to work with the newer ones.

The link to manuals posted earlier is for the US models, which seem to have a no limiter-fuction at all. (Probably some legal stuff)

I need to either limit the cars max speed, or put in some stickers on the front window when running through Germany with tires that are rated slower than the cars max speed.

I know it´s there somewhere, just can´t seem to find it...

Permanent Speedtronic is only available for certain countries.

You can use the on-board computer to limit the speed permanently to a value between 160 km/h (e.g. for driving with winter tyres) and the maximum speed.
Shortly before the stored speed is reached, it is displayed in the multi-function display.
You cannot exceed the stored limit speed, even if you depress the accelerator pedal beyond the pressure point (kickdown).

Thanks a lot for your reply, rf065.

But, this menu is from a w211 - My car is a "new" W210, and hence not the same menu as described.

The menus are extremely limited, but I know there is some kind of "secret" sequence to get access to the permanent limiter.

I know how to do it on the "old" w210´s and on the w211´s - Just not on my own car...

Anyone with post year 2000 w210 or/and a manual?

Thanks again...

Can't a dealer tell you? Or email to M-B customer services, their tech. dept is pretty good.

Will check my manual tonight but don't think I've seen it there...

Turning the key to position 1 & pressing the reset button 3 times takes you into the secret menus on mine, have you tried that?

Read the manual - P271 mentions the Permanent Speed Limiter, but there is a qualification that states it is Germany only. Then refers back to P112 and the Individual Settings menu, but does not describe the speed limiter....this is from the US manual [which has no limiter at all!]

Maybe if you change the language to German....

Hi again

Thank you for looking. It seems that the function is rather well hidden, and not available on the US cars.

I´ll try contact the dealer and see if they can help me out. If I find out of anything I´ll post it here for reference.

Thanks to everybody for trying to help out with this...

Take care,
