It was supposed to be a cheap runaround but at £70+ per tank its streching my fuel card to the limit. I'm just waiting for that call into the accounts directors office.

Just got back and by my calculations:
412+ 206 = 618miles, and thats with a heavy right foot![]()
Mine is a 75 litre tank (w211 Break) and I get around 960kms. At that point the reserve light is on and I fill up. It takes 70 lires and I'm off again. never had the courage to see if I can get it over 1000 kms.Andy Stanton said:My Manual E220 W211 with 80 litre tank (not standard on the E220) averages 620-650 miles per tank.
Worst I can remember was a lowly 530ish after lots of 'fun' and town driving. Even when thrashing it I can't seem to get it any lower.
The best I've dared squeeze out was 752. i remember that figure well as I was running on air and desperate to beat the magic 750 figure.
The trick is to be very gentle with the gear box and keep moving. Stop-starts kill this heavy beasts mpg. Also, you have to drive like a complete wimp and be really gentle with the pedals, fluid with the cars momentum and coast down hills at every opportunity. It's actually really hard work and really dull (and nigh on impossible when the roads are busy). Having got over 750 miles I can't be bothered to do it again and simply enjoy driving. I'm sure being a small engine and manual box played a big part of this so great mpg is a good compromise for not being able to afford a nice big lump with the auto box.

After a few more calculations:
70l = 15.39 Gallons
618/15.39 = 40.15 miles per gallon

I just typed this into my spreadsheet:Shude said:Just driving to work etc and back since last november (started keeping proper records)
worst: 341.5m / 62.56l = 24.81mpg
best: 445.3m / 60.91l = 33.23mpg
I reckon on a long journey I'd be able to get about 500 miles out of a tank, not really had cause to take one since beginning the records.
Are we talking about the same thing here? The most you get out of a tank is 160 miles?Seamster15 said:Worst 130 and best 160 miles !
