Left car in for service last week. Garage has recommended the following items need replaced:fuel filter (last changed 18k ago), air filter (last changed 36k ago) and pollen filter (last changed 27k ago).

My question how these last two items correspond to the items listed in the 'tick box' section of the MB Service Booklet. Fuel Filter is listed there, but the others are not. Instead, Combination Filter, Air Cleaner and Dust Filter are listed: am I right in thinking that two of these items are the same thing as the air filter and pollen filter?

Those filters are around £20 each from MB, so given the total cost will be around £60 I would not worry too much and let the garage change them.

air cleaner = air filter
pollen filter = combination filter / dust filter - depending on the car you may have one or both

Last changed the air filter 32k miles ago? *eeek* I do it every 12k (for the sake of £15)

NPUK is spot on, simply different names for the same thing :)

My car was on the old Mercedes ServicePlus contract and when it ended I was given copies of all the invoices that get sent to MB and it transpired the air filter had never been changed in 6yrs. So I got the dealer to change it and it made no noticeable difference to the car and the fuel consumption (always good) stayed the same.

I supose there might be an arguement for the area, the last 2 services I've found a tesco shopping bag and a bunch of leaves!

Or maybe I'm just paranoid! :)

I wonder could my lack of a filter change be responsible for this intermittent fault which recurs every couple of months (and is gradually becoming more frequent)?:

It's starting to bug me now, and I'm wondering whether I should fork out to put the car through diagnostics again?
