R129 climate control display

understood - I assume they go along the sides of the unit ? Does it matter what make of radio the removal tool is from ? Sony are different from Kenwood etc etc
Thanks

They are Mercedes radio removal tools - 45p each or something like that from a main dealer.

Do you know if I need to remove the radio before I can get the cc unit out ?
thanks

They should come out independently of each other - if you remove the radio you'll have better access however.

Understood - Cheers

Sye - I've uploaded a video for another thread that may help if you're still stuck with this. The radio removal tools here aren't the 45p 'key' type of the later cars.

Thanks for the video link - I'm sure that will be invaluable to many.
Had I seen that previously, I would also have realised that I dont actualy need the radio removal tools to get the climate control unit out - All that needs to be done is to remove the radio then push the CCU from behind ! This in turn would have made it clear that the bulb that illuminates the thumbwheel and LCD display has a simple provision for replacement once the unit is out.
Unfortuantely I'm no further forward ( infact I'm 100 steps behind!) in fixing the LCD display. Although the window is now lit, the digital temperature readout is blank - I assume the LCD has burnt out ?? Anyway, unless I can find some kind of electronics genius and just have that replaced, it would seem the only alternative is a new CCU @ £650 .... great !
Any thoughts ? Please !!

Press the LCD display gently - they have a habit of going blank. Failing that - speak to Malcolm (Television) who is an old school electronics expert.

the LCD looks completely dead stats - there's also a kind of 'spill' in the corner of the display : nothing very big but I suppose it isnt supposed to be like that.
Does ' Television ' come on the forum much that you know of ?

He does - though he posts more frequently on MBOA. Your best best may be eBay for a spare however.

ok thanks
when you mention 'ebay for a spare', does that refer to a new LCD display or a climate control unit? If its the former, I think I'll be tremendously lucky to say the least if I find one that's exactly the right size : If the latter, there are no second hand CCU's on ebay for a 129 and the only new/reconditioned ones are in the USA. According to the seller, they wont display in centegrade only farenheit ( this aside from the fact that he seldom replies to questions and generaly comes across as indifferent to selling one).

I've seen a couple of air con control units on eBay in the last few months. A matter of luck I suppose. Send Television a PM and see what he suggests - he may be able to retrofit a new LCD but I doubt it to be honest. There are also people like www.bba-reman.com who may be able to help. Salvage yards also an option.

Edit:

This isn't what you're after but gives you an idea that they do appear!

yeah, timing is everything with ebay.
Despite completing my registration on the other forum, it's now saying that I am restricted from sending PM's !! Why is nothing ever easy ??
Wow, the lonk you sent me for bba-reman is perfect..They offer a repair and an exchange service : If only they were in the UK. There has to be something similar over here, doesn't there ?

unbelievable ! I've just seen they have a worldwide headquaters in gillingham,Kent - Result

Mbgtc on e-bay do LCD climate control units.

thanks c43amg - unfortunately it's a different design to the one they're selling
