R63 AMG - Collecting Cars

You could buy this and probably sell it for the same price a few years down the line

Only if you bought it very cheaply
I'm not so sure. Not sure what would be classified as cheap either as there a so few around to compare price

Any predictions what it’ll go for?
Logically not a great deal, as it’s an aging platform, with a very niche drive train in an unpopular model. However that is precisely what led to them becoming the equivalent of rocking horse manure.

However if you get two people who have wanted one for a while - and they’re both in the auction - then name your price. They so rarely come up for sale in the UK that there’s little to go on.

I’ve thought for some years that if a good one came up then I would be very tempted, but whilst it has a curiosity and rarity value, I think the actual appeal has probably ebbed away now for me.

There’s no mention of history or mileage, but anything more than an equivalent ML 63 AMG (more popular but on the same platform/drivetrain) will be purely for rarity and “investment potential”.

Here's the BS if they ever made 1

I know what you mean, I think even with myself it’s more the ‘idea’ that appeals as opposed to the actual practicality of it. If I had the space, ‘spare’ funds that wouldn’t leave a dent in the wallet 😖 I would definitely throw in a bid, but I’m not that fortunate 😅

Will definitely watch the auction as I’m interested to see how far the bidding goes on

There were 12 taxed in the UK at the end of 2007:

Interesting that there are still 9 around (5 taxed, 4 SORNed).

Apologies, my mistake.

But "that they only sold 12 R63’s in the UK, of which just five are still in regular use,"

tells us a lot about the appeal of the R63.

Regardless of whether it’s liked generally, the two top bidders will work out what it’s worth. And maybe whether a high powered black on black Soccermummobile is “cool.”

If an R500 on 150k is worth less than £5k, what's an R63 worth?

It's all about the top two bidders. As I said.

The "dialectic." If you're an AMG fan who wants a 3rd or 4th car as a family wagon or horse box puller. It's a no-brainer. I can help anyone make that case.

But it's still an AMG assembled in Alabama that only sold twelve units in the UK, which might have just been sold at a discount as demonstrators or staff cars as "halo" cars for the R class.

I almost bought a late R500, with the later n/a V8, a few years back, but having seen a couple of R class on the road since, I'm quite glad I didn't, because I doubt I'd have kept it for long. It's a socking great lump of a thing, that's for sure.

I wouldn’t be surprised if all - or almost all of them were registered by MBUK - as I seem to remember there being quite a few of them (too many to easily count) at an event MBUK hosted at MIRA in around 2007.

I almost purchased as facelift LWB with the 5.5L M273, but was disappointed with the lack of flexibility of the send row seating and the claustrophobia of the third bench. Shame as it would've been great for family plus remaining grandparents, being a seven seater.

My in-laws ran a petrol R350 (LWB) for a good few years ... that was the original 6 seat version. When we had a 3rd child they got a VW Sharan instead :ban:

And here it is, being flipped for £7k...
