Rear sub frame replacement

Tripped over this thread by accident. My W218 had the subframe flagged for corrosion during the last service. MB of Poole wrote to Mercedes and they are replacing it on 28th. Getting some other bits done too so hopefully it will last another 10 years as there's nothing new that is as interesting as this car has been. :)

Had interesting experience with my old (2012) w204….
mine unexpectedly failed MOT last week, went to see nearest Synter dealership asking if they would accept it at pre-failure price (only worth about £1600 in P/e against newer other model, potentially saving MBUK £2k against subframe and airbag recalls.

Sales manager came-over and totally negated my suggestion, suggesting if it’s brought in for inspection it would be held until passed MOT, and they would likely be stricter on other ‘advisories’ which would cost me
£££’s

So much for trying to have a honest and constructive conversation!

Then Got his ‘specialist’ to calculate its value as a generous £500.

So, I have to bear the consequences of original shoddy substandard components, rather than a fair ‘meet you in the middle’ conversation that retains goodwill 🤷‍♂️

Ps: Wife & daughter have nearer A-Class models.

Personally, as an ex main dealer SM, I think he was corect and you were unreasonable. Why would he pay the same price for an effective write off as a retail quality car?

Because….
I wasn’t seeking that the Dealer fund the difference but a concurrent conversation be held with MBUK requesting that instead of circa £4k for the sub-frame ‘goodwill’ plus mandatory airbag recall, they instead save £3k by making a £1k P/e contribution.
Plus the car would go to auction anyway and likely cover the £500 dealer contribution.

What I DIDN’T expect was a conversation that implied that advisories a week ago could turn into failures during subsequent dealer MOT.

In my ignorance I expected all parties to act with integrity.

The main thing is that they have no guarantee that MB will pay for the subframe....and now yours is an MOT it's clearly worth far less to the dealer. Every px I took in went on the computer and the ramp before figures were set in stone.
