Retro fitted heated seats W211

will look forward to logging on next week? all my stuff came today for the front seats! i plan to start on the passengers seat first so i can at least drive the car, hopefully the better half wont mind me building them in the kitchen!! my little boy will be wondering whats going.

Good luck with the instal , i will get back next week with a price for the loom and switches

hello all, i`ve commenced with a slow start today while the sun is shining!! with the seat out (passengers) i seperated the seat pad from its base with very little trouble only to find what appears to be a printed circuit in the middle of the pad, iam thinking this could be one of two things :
  • Passenger seat occupancy sensor?
  • heated pad?
it has OBEN Mercedes Benz W211 / OC-AKSE? what do you think lads. iam trying to recharge my camera phone to take some pic`s.

ok not to worry iam going with the idea its only the Passenger seat occupancy sensor, so on i go? ive fitted the seat pads and the back pads and have started to put them all back together being a bit picky " cleaning it all as i go". when i was stripping out my passengers seat i decided to have a look at how i was going to route the loom that was supplied with the 4 pads & module? on the passengers door foot well just behind the carpet is a black plastic conduit i have been told that this was the route to take, following the other wires down to the front foot well i found a group of connector blocks very small 2 wire type (my supplied loom has the male end to this plug) so iam guessing thats were i will be plugging into, i guess that out of the four that are vacant one will before the heated seat arrangement (will confirm with my guy tomorrow) the 2 No earths can go just under the dash where the OE earths are, there is a thick yellow cable within the supplied loom that comes from the module, that i belive could be the perm live (again i will check tomorrow).

Your correct, the printed mesh is a Passenger seat occupancy sensor.

The 2 pin plug is the CAN feed for the heated seats , and it connects to the bus bar , make sure to release the locking clip before connecting the extra plug .

Right i have the rest of the information for the retro fit? all the information so far has been correct and very useful WARNING the mistake i have made was by using the car before i had finished the install? i have a couple of messages up on the screen that will have to be "star" sorted "oh well not to worry" looking forward to the end result hoping to continue the week-end weather permitting, looking ahead the module i was sent is the A2118702026 it has 3 No plug in points

  • No 1 is for the front heated seats.
  • No 2 is blank ( no connectors)
  • No 3 has 7 No fine pins (any ideas what goes there for future use)

One of the plugs is for the rear heated seats , im not sure if it is 2 or 3 , all i can rememer is that the rear plug is under the front seat plug .
I dont think that the rear switches and looms that we have in work will e for sale , the boss was talking about fitting them to his car

What year is the car? Just asking as someone mentioned about using the OEM heated seats control unit and I wasn't sure if that is what you're doing. Just to make you aware there was a changeover and the heated seats will either be controlled by the HS control unit, or the passenger side SAM unit, the latter just a case of changing the coding with a STAR providing the wiring is all there.
In fact, i'm not 100% but even if the year of your car should use a HS unit then you may still just be able to bypass and use the passenger SAM anyway, providing it has the coding option.
Just my 2p, hope this helps some, if not I guess it was irrelevant lol.

very useful information, i will let you all know the results on Sunday weather permitting.

not to worry about the rear switches will source them so where.

regards Will

AKSE is the child-seat recognition system - the airbag light will light if you damage it and they are £100ish - so be careful !!

So the thing you are looking at is the passenger occupancy sensor and the child -seat recognition from front passenger seat
The heated seat elements is something different and is likely to be nearer the leather (or fixed to it) if present.

Retrofit heated seats W211

:bannana: "Top banana" i now have heated OE seats in my W211 E320 CDI class.

Positives

  • OE look.
  • OE switches/H.S.Module/loom
  • nice heat output to both seat pad/back rests
  • you dont need star to complete the installation
  • saved £££££
Negatives

  • some trim damage (broken)
  • time element to install
  • required star to switch off SRS/seat belt warning (due to me turning the ignition on) could have been avoided
Lessons learnt

  • seek lots of advice
  • buy a car with the option already added
  • dont take NO for an answer.
would i do it again "hell yes"

Hi Will,

well done and fair play on your heated seats - probably cheaper than my non-OEM heat pads when you include installation!

There is a great kick to having done it yourself - and don't worry about the damaged trim pieces, that's just more things you can replace in due course! Pick up the pieces as you go along - I found the online parts catalog (EPC) extremely useful when I retro-fitted folding mirrors to my 2006 E320 - and affordable (I think a year's subscription was 15 euro or thereabouts).

Cheers,
Eddie.

heated seats

Hi Will Kelly,
did you ever manage to take photos of this project, as im contemplating doing the same
many thanks
Mark

Having done these myself now, things to watch
a) at some point (around 2006/2007), the heated seats become controlled from the front passenger SAM (needs a SAM with the control) rather than a seperate heated seat module
b) It takes a bit of fiddling to get the right connectors to use the OEM harness/seat-connector blocks

Richard
