I have a 2014 w207 and would like the sat nav to show the roads speed limit. Is this possible to add or is it already in the sat nav but needs me to get it onto the screen?
Thanks for any info.
Pete

IIRC you have to have the correct camera fitted in the front screen?

Not sure about the need for a camera and I do not know the answer to your specific question but.....

I replaced the COMAND unit in my SL for an Alpine unit a couple of years or so ago and having the speed limit displayed is an option......one that I have enabled.

GPS knows where the car is and what the speed limit is for the road that I am travelling.

I would have expected that a 2014 sat nav system, even an MB one, should be capable of displaying the road speed limit.

Thanks for both replies. I also think it should be possible but can't really find out. Does not have a camera. My portable old sat nav was able to show the road speed limit.

COMAND uses both data from the cartography, and also input from a camera to display speed limit data on the screen. I'm not sure if speed limit display is possible without the camera, but Richard or Alfie will know for certain, so I suggest you contact COMANDONLINE and ask.

You can't make it display speed limits unless it has the speed limit reading camera etc etc

If you send the VIN to Alfie ( Mercedes Retrofit Specialist - Comand.co.uk ) he'll let you know if it can be easily retrofitted or whether it is more complex - it depends what is on your car already !

Cheers

The camera is for the sign recognition system. I.e the camera sees a speed sign and flashes it up on the screen. Bloody annoying as it's constantly flashing up so I turnrd mine off.

Yes I can understand that Ian, I would not want that either.

Understood.......the Alpine must be database driven along with the fixed cameras in conjunction with the GPS.

A lot of the Sat Nav systems use GPS data to display the speed limits, of course this is only as good as the information supplied at the time of mapping, from the cars I have driven recently with it installed I'd say it's correct about 95% of the time.

I did not realise the Comand system does not use that data in the mapping also, I knew some cars come with TSR which mirrors current road signs past on the driver display, which is the one that some people get annoyed with it's constantly popping up.

Ive got this (on both my car and my wife's) and love it. The popping up on the dashboard display was annoying at first, but now I don't notice it at all.

What is really useful, if i'm ever wanting re-assurance of the speed limit (like when approaching a speed camera) I just look at the map on COMAND and there it is showing.

It does use the map to translate "national speed limit' signs into 60 or 70 depending if you are on a dual carriage way or not.

I do wonder if these tech "advances" will just mean that in time drivers will stop looking at road signs and forget how to get clues as to what the speed limit is...

COMAND does use the speed limit data from the cartography, but it augments it with input from the camera. It's actually much more sophisticated than GPS-only systems as it correctly identifies and displays temporary or changed limits, and even conditional limits, e.g. when wet or active only at particular times, when I drove in Germany.

It's not the technology that means drivers find it difficult or impossible to judge what the speed limit is by the character of the road, it's become that way ever since local councils were allowed to set limits for all sorts of extraneous reasons

That's good, just like all the other modern systems then, even Ford!

As I said I was surprised it did not have the speed cameras on mapping because of the reply from Richard

That's all..........;)
