Running in C63

I find it hard to belive the running in is really required. However I dare say driving from the showroom to a track is more what MB would be worried about. But if its a reason for them to baulk on a warranty claim then best try and keep your foot of the fun pedal.
However in 6 months it will be mapped and thrashed :)

I will be doing it a 1k, 5k, 10k, and so on....though I don't do a lot of miles as I have my e class for wet days and winter! in fact I just fitted snow tires to oem 16s on the E!!

Thanks!!

A man after my own heart and a very wise move sir :thumb:

I read a thread on a forum, probably this one, where the customer picked up his C63 from AMG in Germany. He asked about the running in period and was told its not really for the engine, its more to do with transmission and other items to 'bed in'

running in

I just think I will take it easy for the first 1000 miles, and as I said change the oil and filter @ 1000 miles and 5000 mile intervals thereafter, I plan on keep in the 507 for a long time and a oil and filter change cant be that expensive :thumb:

Cautionary tale. I was speaking to a colleague today who was admiring my C63. Tells me he had one but the engine let go after 3000mls! It was not covered under warranty from MB as they picked up he'd ragged it senseless from day 1 on the ECU readouts. He said he'd even tracked it under 1000mls and used to love revving it on the drive just to hear the noise.(now has a Focus RS - says it all) The only warning sign he had was overheating after relatively short runs. £12k for 3 months motoring is a bit of a hit! Fortunately i babied mine for the first 1000mls and also checked oil consumption regularly as will burn a bit bedding in. They do recommend changing the oil after 2k in an LSD so why not the engine?

nasty!! that's why I will run mine in and do the oil at 1k and 5k intervals thereafter!!

Oil and a filter is cheap, Engines are not!!

Your colleague is full of **** then.

Don't know why you feel so maybe you didn't run yours in? Believe me he has no reason to lie.

The thing is MB will give warranties on Demo cars and press cars to get rid of them. If they let go later they will fix them it's pure economics. If they can show you have mistreated your car by not following then recommended running in schedule or have chipped it or altered it without approval then you will have voided the warranty and they won't pay up. Your call your risk!

At no point do you sign off that you will run the car in. The engines are bench tested before fitting, the car is given a shake down before, leaving the factory. Shall I go on?

How I ran my car in is not the question here.
