SCRAP or SELL my 1998 SLK?

Am I missing something? Does it actually have any major problems that make scrapping it advisable, or is it worth more scrapped, or trade it in scrapping?

On autotrader similar cars seem to be from £4.5k upwards.

If you want to get shot of it I'll give you scrappage money:)

Colin.. Finally a reply that i was looking for...

something to work on.. Thank you.

Any more Benchmarks so i can relate to..

I'm sure there would be plenty of takers at that price :D

Hi guys.. im not saying i want to sell it at Scrap price..

I was asking is it of scrapable value or more? and which way should i direct it.

Its got a fairly new MOT, or would have a new one put on either way..
yes brilliant car, best of the bunch in many ways... but just needs change..

I have considered getting the interior completely retrimmed, and exterior tidyed up.. but common sense prevails.. and maybe this should be of loaded..

and no i do not want to scrap her if she have value in it.. obviously..

See you later.

Any chance you could scrap all your Mercs?

Well as you can see from the responses it's definitely not one to be scrapped. £4k+ seems like a reasonable starting point, I'm sure that the official book price would be pretty poor.

As I'm sure you know, a lot goes on the history & condition. You've mentioned some body work issues dent's etc as well as the interior maybe needing a retrim. Granted it's a 10yr old car but to get top money those issues would count against it.

Good luck with whatever you decide...
It looks a nice car in the pictures and a great colour combination (one of my favourites for an early SLK).

Hiya..

yes, its a lovely combo.. very nice in its day when we got it, still holds the road like no other car i have... short wheel base and low body...

and no, its not destined for the scrap, unless there was no value in it and its worthy of a new home i believe...

Yes, body work not mint, nor interior, but one owner with 120 on clock, and it has been well maintained, hence its used every day, and our other cars have low mileage...

all electrics work, and spec is the highest.

double heated seats, leathers, air con, alarm immobiliser, electric roof etc, headlamp wash, upgraded factory alloys, fog lamps, 10 disc changer - all kenwood + dash carbon fibre blended radio with rotating security shutter.

body work, 7/10
interior, 5/10
wheels, 5/10, with newish tyres..

If the timing was right I'd be interested, but I can't justify having (or should I say SWMBO won't let me) another car at the moment (or not for a long time to be honest!)

Damn. I was looking for another SLK at a bargain price:)

Should be worth around 5K or more, I'd have thought.

Bennets Car Sales : Mercedes SLK 230 kompressor

Just getting a bit late in the year to get top money on convertibles...

Keep it - it won't cost you much in depreciation!

True.

Nothing to do with depreciation.. just space..

The car cost us £34,500 or so in 1998, so depreciation doesnt come into it any more..

Just a fair value !

Then why start the thread?

Are you that desperate for attention?

Nick you *i*k

the fact this is a open forum, about Mercedes, allows me to raise topics of discussional interest, whether i am the only interested party or not..

The fact, that you chose to quote the first line out of numerous lines in that post is your choice.

I am looking at ofloading the car at some point, and with the scrapage scheme, its an option, but if values are higher, then may not scrap, as scrapping a car of value is not nice, and this is a lovely car..

Rather than scrap, i could sell so its not destined for the grave yard, and further more.. if there is value in it, i could market it..

Im open to choice.. like you..

I dont tell you what underwear to wear and likewise i dont remember you becoming God to need justification if i wanted attention or not.. simple query about scrapping a car, keeping it, is their value in it above scrapage.. Sell or not sell, thats my choice, nothing to do with you..

Dont go ruining your weekend thinking too much about me..

I know i am a very active member on here, which i am proud of, but really, if everyone needs to justify what they post, then this forum would not be as good as it is..

It is one of the most engaging forums around.. so much better than that mini forum for sure....

Enjoy the weekend and Bank holiday...

Ouch..

I wondered who'd be the first to come to that conclusion.

LOL..

Well as stated before.. its an open forum, and with me being active on here, i am open to criticism which im happy to accept as everyone is different, and no one needs to agree or disagree.. innit!

enjoy!

SCRAP a 1998 SLK ???????????

I've still got a 1997 Citroen Berlingo Van !!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I have.

And I'm keeping it.

It's got clean bodywork, no rust, no dents, only 70k miles, and apart from insurance and road tax costs almost nothing. I've had it 8 years, and it's still in regular use by either me or one of the staff, any time we need to move something that we don't want to put in the back of a car.

Ah you see.. u can do your ikea rounds in it.. all i can do is carry a bunch of grapes in the slk

Trust me, scrapping is the last of the options.. its just an easy option if there was no value.. but so for, concensus is that i should keep it..

its a brilliant car, ive said that all along..

And i know some of you think i have forgotten, but we are in a credit crunch, and i do want some different cars..

one life, make the most of it!
