SCRAP or SELL my 1998 SLK?

Dear The Boss, I hope you get your grapes sorted soon.

Also, is that your brother or hubby in the pic?

The Boss, What I dont understend is that you seem to be more than capable/confident enough in puttng a valuation on your E320 Cabriolet, & then going against the general concensus on this forum that its over-valued, by sticking by your valuation....

Yet you need help in pricing up your SLK, & knowing if there is value in it above scrappage...

A simple look through autotrader would reveal that its worth more than the 2k scrappage value.

Also recently you showed yourself to be a remarkably astute operator when you was able to buy/negotiate a newer S-class & sell your older one for more money.... That takes some knowledge of the market, I tell you!

So how come the complete novice act is present in regards to the SLK?

Im just abit miffed really....

But good luck whatever you decide to do.

need
i am open to criticism which im happy to accept as everyone is different

Surely these two statements are contradictions to one another

no one s to agree or disagree.. innit

Nobody was attacking you but questioning the fact that you correctly or incorrectly stated that you would be willing to scrap your reliable SLK. If this is an open forum then everyone who is a member can question you without you getting so defensive.

I for one think that regardless of the thread, calling Nick a "*i*k" was unjustified. The chap is a gentleman, which anyone who has dealt with him will tell you. I am glad to call him a friend, and as you say "Boss" if this is an open forum where anyone can post and discuss things "which makes it such a great forum" on what basis is it appropriate to insult someone offering an opinion? It's his opinion whether you like it or not!

Probably not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but I don't like to see friends insulted.

...and in terms of the car it looks like a beaut, keep it or sell it for a price you're happy with.

Glad to see you back on the forum Bobby! how've you been!

And yes, i think this is a bit of an attention wh0re thread, but hey if he wants to scrap his slk all we can do is point and laugh.

Boss, the reason you will find some people getting annoyed is that you are asking a question on a forum which if you spent 5 minutes of your own time looking on autotrader and valuing your own car and making your own decision, it would use up less time then maintaining the replies on this thread.

I agree Adam.

Boss , i'm sure you're a nice guy and all , but all these posts basically seem to come across like you are wanting everyone to think ' Wow ! He's got so much cash that he can afford to buy his sister a car / scrap a perfectly good SLK / buy a V12 because he feels like it ! I wish i was like him ! '

It just makes people think you are seeking attention all the time , like the kid at the back of the class shouting 'Look at me , look at me ! '

As Adam says , a 2 minute trawl of Autotrader reveals that the original question is moot ... unless you've got so much cash that you just can't be bothered to sell the SLK and would rather chop it up as it's less hassle than having to deal with buyers ? do you light cigars with £50 notes too ?

I'm in awe ..... ;)

Infraction given for swearing and insulting other members.

I've been good thx Adam! How's you and yur beast? Glad to see it's all sorted after the mishap. You not coming to TRAX next weekend? If not see you at an MBWorld meet soon :-)

Who got the infraction? If it was The Boss I think it a little harsh. The only thing I can see that would remotely incur such sanction is where he address's Nick as "*i*k." I have no idea what an "*i*k" is, don't care to speculate what it is or whether Nick is one or not. If he called him a Scunthorpe perhaps it might have been better, since that word isn't automatically edited & we would have had an idea what he meant.

Surely if The Boss merits one for that then farney is also due one for insinuating in post 41 that The Boss is involved in a homosexual relationship, incestuous or otherwise?

Should that rumour gain credence in the general population it could result in damage to The Bosses reputation, his relationship with the woman (?) pictured (you see the way doubts can creep in?) or indeed health, as I believe some of out more immoderate Eastern cousins would stone him to death him lickety split for such a relationship.

At the very least it's a grave insult to The Bosses' fiance & would be seen as "fighting words" in Texas &, I'm sure, other areas.

The Boss is not the woman in the avatar but the man. The man is however selling a ladies car so can see how you got confused.

But couldn't the phrase "monkey love" be deemed to be racist?

Yes, I know The Boss is the man in the avatar.

I assumed, apparently in error, that the brother / hubby question was directed at the person he's smooching.

Silly me.

Perhaps franey will be along to set the record straight.

Boss

Why didn't you ask how much we thought it was worth, in the first place

Why use the word "scrap" - what has that to do with anything

It is clear to all that the car is worth more than £2,000 - are you seriously telling us that you felt that it was worth less.

What a strange thread - it appears to have no logic or sense

Here we go again - a "long" Boss thread

Neil, in all fairness, if one was to fill in the gaps to *i*k, one is not going to end up with Nick !...

If you look at the general tone of the post & furthermore The Boss's obvious annoyance at Nick, we all know what he meant... lets just say it rhymes with Nick.

The fact that The Boss removed certain letters, shows that he knew he was about use an insulting word, that in itself is an obvious sign of guilt.

No excuses, that was bang out of order.

If we were all to start behaving like The Boss did, this forum would soon start resembling upton park this past week.... Full of morons.

So tell me, where does it tell us if Boss is the male or female in the pic?
Merely a little fun to try and make light of this thread which some seem to have taken too seriously.
Perhaps the car is really worth less than 2k, who knows, do you?

I agree Adam.

I think you have hit the nail on the head; it is "look at me" all the time; look at the best w124 cab in the world, it is the best car in my fleet, oh now it is for sale, I am looking for a Bentley, look at my new S class; help me get a 6 litre W140; i think i will scrap the SLK just as it is a bit old, never mind it only cost me £34k.
Normally people who have the cash to do this sort of stuff go about things a little more discretely.
Has "The Boss" () been banned?

Lets be fair about this. The scrappage scheme has caused all sorts of illogical behaviour, with people 'scrapping' cars worthy more than the £2k.

The original post was vague regarding keep/scrap/scrappage, no doubt. Initially light hearted responses, but then it seemed to get rather personal.

I know I'm not exactly a frequent poster, but it didn't seem a question that was unreasonable to the extent others seem to think.

Am I too tolerant to own a merc?

Ok, so The Boss is a bit of a willy waver. Not an uncommon thing on forums, whatever the subject. Not sure why people are getting worked up about it really...
